I am going in for a sleep study tonight. It's been schedule for quite some time and has been moved back once, so I am ready to get it done. I know I have sleep issues and I'm hoping this will help us find some solutions. But, I am a little nervous because I don't really know what to expect. Please pray for me that things will go well.

Also, if anyone has been through this, can you tell me what to expect?

    Thanks!

My sister is an RT in a sleep lab. It shouldn't be bad. You'll be hooked up to monitors that will allow the RT or sleep tech to see your breathing patterns and when you enter the different stages of sleep. The labs are designed to be comfortable, as you need to be able to sleep! My sister says the rooms at her lab are nicer than any hotel she's been in. I think if sleep apnea is discovered you will have a second study to determine the proper fit/amount of air flow for a CPAP (or other) machine. I'd call and ask, details for you, but she works nights :)wink:) and is asleep now. I've never heard her mention any horror stories, so I think it shouldn't be too bad.

Thank you, Sixcloar! My son had an EEG after he had a seizure a couple of years ago. I'm thinking it might be similar to that, only overnight??? I'm totally expecting to end up with a CPAP machine. If that's what it takes for me to get some sleep at night, I'm all for it. I don't think in my whole life I've ever woke up feeling rested, no matter how long I sleep.

That definitely helps put my mind at ease about the actual study! I would appreciate prayers for my nerves dealing with all the logistics of getting there...

My MIL has kindly offered to take off tomorrow so that the kids can stay with her tonight. The hospital is an hour away from here, so DH will need to stay overnight rather than drive back and forth. But, she planned dinner with a friend for this evening and she's not sure what time she'll be finished...so nice of her to watch the kids, but it sure would be helpful if she could get them earlier.

This morning my mom called and offered to take "the girls" to church tonight so they don't have to miss. That would help because she gets off at 5 and I could drop them off with her earlier, but only if it includes all the kids. If I still have to wait around for MIL to get DS, it really doesn't solve my problem at all.

I know it will all work out in the end. I just let myself get too stressed about the details.

You are probably sound asleep right now but I am praying. Handsome has had a sleep test and he said it wasn't too bad.

Thanks for the prayers and encouragement. It really wasn't too bad. I didn't sleep well, but that's nothing new. I took the sleeping meds they gave me, but they didn't really kick in. I'm pretty tired this morning, though, so I'm going to head back to bed for an hour or so.

I'm pretty sure once my doctor gets the results, I'll be going back up to get a CPAP machine. From what I've heard, it makes all the difference, so I'm kind of excited about it.

Naturallia-it really wasn't bad. Just make sure you take comfy clothes to sleep in. I also took my own pillows. I think next time, I will take my own quilt, too. It takes about 45min-1hr to get everything hooked up and then you just go to sleep (or try to :)). Really no big deal.

Handsome can't stand his CPAP and will not use it. He has the mask and finds it very uncomfortable and thinks the machine is too loud. While I can hear it, I do not find it loud. A friend told him he could get a nose piece instead of the mask but he still can't stand having anything on his face when he sleeps. I don't think he gave it enough time. The people I know who use the machine LOVE it.

I think my husband would appreciate the noise of the machine over the sound of my snoring. :D

I can see his point about having something on his face. I'm really picky about how I sleep. I hope, if I get a machine, that I will be able to get used to wearing it. At this point, I'll do anything that helps me get good sleep.

Am I ever with him on that!!!

Thankfully the trundle bed in Emma's room has come in handy a multitude of times. :D We have a train that runs behind our house, not right behind it but very close, and I rather hear the horn honk and the engine rumble than have Handsome snore in my ear.
