Rachael is graduating this June. Maybe we need to start a thead later in the restricted area for Senior pictures...?
I just received Marissa's senior portraits, they are beautiful! She took them in early November. I have a friend who is a professional photographer. I work on his website in exchange for a big discount on his services.
How lucky for you!!! Rachael's are being done by a friend. This young lady did her brother's last year, and those turned out very nicely. I've not seen them yet....
I have one graduating in June. Been accepted to 3 colleges so far. I don't know where he'll go. He's undecided about going away or not. I'd like to see him stay here to keep price down. He'll be interviewing in Feb for a full scholarship so if he gets that he could possible go to that school (only 40 minutes away).
Staying home isn't a choice. She can actually go away cheaper than staying, because the local schools won't give a scholarship to anyone who isn't a minority. Amethyst, we're hoping to be interviewing in Feb, too! But that school is seven hours away, in Tennessee!
Marissa has been accepted to both of the colleges she applied to, University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Nicholls State University. She qualifies for a TOPS Scholarship but that only covers tuition. Both of these schools offer merit aid so she is hoping to get help with housing and food. She is an excellent student, highly motivated, and a born leader. We are very proud of her!
She sounds a lot like my Rachael. Rachael had excellent ACT scores, and, like Marissa, is an excellent student, highly motivated, and a born leader. She's applied to two Christian universities, and two state schools. The Christian school closer to home has a competition for 3/4 scholarship, but there's only nine given, and about 200 applying. We're not holding our breath for it, lol! The other Christian college guarantees her 1/2 based on her grades and ACT score, with the possibility of a full-ride. The application for that (with essay!) is due sometime in January. She's been doing the math, trying to figure out how she could make the additional half if she doesn't get a full-ride. There's a lot of "possibilities", but of course none of them are sure things at this point!
She got her scores back today, and was able to raise it by one. That's all we wanted, because that qualifies her to possibly get a full-tuition scholarship at Ohio University! Now it's just a waiting game.
32. She's a math/science whiz. If I hadn't been there when she was born, I'd swear she wasn't my kid, lol! Math and science are TOTALLY against my religion!!! I took Alg. 1 and Geometry, and General Science and Biology. I loved the Geometry (partly due to an excellent teacher), but I really don't have the mind for math or science. I'm much more creative, and took four English classes my Senior year!
This thread should have a sticky. This will allow people to add to the thread or just read about the successe stories.
Update: Ds received a Presidential scholarship to the local university that he will probably attend. It is their highest scholarship, so we're really happy about that. It's not a full scholarship though. Oh well, it's still super! He has his interview for another college's Presidential scholarship next week. That one is a full scholarship. We'll see....
My oldest son, Kenson, graduates this year!! My first little baby! He has been taking college credit classes for the past 2 years. He wants to go into the military after he has the 15 college credits he needs. So far he has 12, 1 more class for him!
We just got back from my son's Presidential scholarship interview/tour. He thought it went well. He really liked the campus. I was so-so on the campus. They told us there are 8-10 scholarships offered and 86 students interviewing. We'll see. If he gets offered the scholarship, we'll have a big decision to make. He has it narrowed down to 3 colleges and this one is the only one that he'd have to live away at.
