I need to mail a small book to Canada, can I mail it from my home or do I have to take it to the Post office? ...... If I just use a small (5X7) padded envelope can I just put some stamps on it?

I think you would mail it the same as a regular package. I mailed a box a few years back to Canada. The shipping was more but it was sent via post office because I couldn't fit it in my mailbox.

You will need to mail it at the post office, because you have to fill out a customs declaration even for just a small book.

Is this new? I didn't have to fill anything out when I mailed the box to Canada. But that was a few years ago.

Its best to go too the Post Office because you'll have to fill out a customs form if you are mailing books.

Last month I mailed off a package to Canada and had to fill out a customs form.

Depending on the size of the package, you might be able to put it in a larger brown envelope (and then tape the envelope down to fit the size of the package). I often send things to the US and rather than pay for a bulky package I put it in a brown envelope and tape it down so the postage isn't so bad.

You will have to go to the post office and send it from there because you will have to include a customs sticker declaring what is in the package and a value to it.

It usually takes about a week for me to send something from Atlantic Canada to the West Coast of the US if that's any help to you

That is interesting. I wonder why I didn't have to fill out a customs sticker or form when I sent out my package? I am not questioning you ladies. I am sure you are right. I am curious why I didn't have to fill anything out. My package arrived without any problems. Perhaps it was an oversight on the part of the post office.

Remember I'm sending from Canada to the US so maybe it's different. If I want it to go faster than I week, I just go for a drive to Maine and send it from there and it's a fraction of the cost.
