I have made the decision to pull my daughter out of charter school this Thursday.:shock: There is no reason for her to stay in charter school she is too far behind in math. I am talking about six lessons behind and six F test grades. There is no way she can or will be caught up to even pass her math class and be promoted to the sixth grade. I will admit I'm scared and as the day is drawing nearer I feel like I have no ideal what the hell I'm doing, gonna do, or should do.:? Please keep me and my daughter in your prayers.:love:
I'll certainly pray! I realize it's easier for me to say "relax! You got this!" than it is for you to believe it, but it doesn't make it any less true. If all else fails, stand on the fact that you certainly can't do any worse than the school was!
You're doing the right thing. Remember to allow time to de-school. Also, you don't have to make your homeschool "School-at-home". This way of educating is tailored to your child and how she learns. If it takes a week for her to understand 1 lesson, so be it. Don't rush her. You will most certainly see results. On another note, I love what Amie said-You can't do any worse than the school did! You will both do awesome!!
Yay!!! Very happy for you. Seconding what others have said about de-schooling and taking your time. Be flexible. There will be the temptation to jump in gung-ho to fix everything, but try to think of the long run. And don't be afraid to change your plan. Good luck and ENJOY!
Its official! I am a HomeSchooling Mom. Withdraw my daughter today out of the charter school and drove to the Superintendent office to hand in my letter of intent to homeschool.
Congratulations and welcome to the homeschool journey! Now, take a deep breath and relax. Both of you will need a "detox" period. Plan to spend several weeks, or even months just taking it easy, enjoying time together, read some great books together, don't require too much of either of you for awhile.
Hehe! I feel like a brand new woman. My daughter wants to start tomorrow. We'll just go to Barnes and Noble to read.
Use the Barnes and Noble time to get an idea of what she's interested in learning. Have her look through the non-fiction books and use those to signal the best way to suck her into learning that she'll enjoy Good luck!! You won't regret it
I would spend a little time figuring out your daughter's learning styles. Is she right-brained or left-brained? Is she more auditory, visual, or kinesthetic? Knowing these things will help you pick out curriculum for her. Congratulations and good luck homeschooling!
