We have several projects that require the use of magazine clippings, but I don't subscribe to any magazines. How do you get them? Do you have a source for donations, or do you just subscribe to some knowing you're just going to cut them up?

You can always check thrift stores or if your library has a place that they sell books/magazines.

I've seen things like magazines pass through ours here. Heading out in a few to get me a "new" washing machine. New for me anyway!

If there's an apartment building nearby you can check the recycle bin (If its not one you have to climb into!!) There used to be a small (6 apartments) building across the street from us and they used to have a milk crate in the carport that people would put the magazines and newspapers in.

Our library takes donations of old magazines. They put them on shelf and allow students to take as many as they want for projects. They actually limit how many you can donate at a time, because they don't have enough storage space for them all.

Garage sales! I don't know if you live in a city/ large town or out in the country. I have found stacks of magazines for free at garage sales.
Also try the free section of craigslist. I found amazing things on craigslist for free.

Do any of your friends have magazines they can donate?

We subscribe to a few magazines. When Ems was younger, we used them for language arts and other projects.

I don't really have any local friends yet. I have a homeschool group, but I'm guessing they need their magazines for the same reasons I need them. lol

I subscribe to free magazines for this purpose. Watch amazon for $5 subscriptions (Like my son was super excited to get a year of Reptiles magazine and I was excited about the $5/year price!)

Then watch the coupon deal sites, you can often get 1 issue of many magazines free or up to a year subscription free-we get a 4 wheel drive magazine, an off road magazine and horses magazine for free.

Ask at the Doctor/Dentist office what they do with the magazines after they're WAY too old.

I have 3 large boxes of them! I went to my children's doctor and dentist offices and asked them what they did with their magazines at the end of the month. They both said they pitched them. So I just asked if I brought them a container if they could save them for us. Both offices agreed and presto we have tons of magazines!

I get them from my dad. He subscribes to several "science and mechanic" type magazines, and his wife subscribes to a few "homemaking" type magazines. So we get plenty of magazines for our projects and the kids like looking at the pictures in Grandpa's magazines.

Some of those "slick paper" color ad-and-coupon papers that come in my junk mail have pictures and lettering that can be cut out. I've used those before for some things.
