Freddy and I love going to our local Goodwill store early in the morning after Emily goes to school. Sometimes we even go out for breakfast first. This week I found a brand new build a bear for 50 cents. It is pink with white heart shaped spots and has on a complete Hello Kitty outfit. Today I saw a cute doll and picked it up. I asked the manager how much it would be because there was no tag. He said $1.00. I decided to get it even though my girls are out of the doll stage. I have always loved dolls and it just kept catching my eye. Anyway when I got home I took its jumpsuit off and noticed it had a name on the back of its neck so I looked it up. It is a real American Girl Doll! I was so shocked! it has medium to dark brown hair. Not the super straight but not curly either. It has blue eyes and I guess a medium skin tone. She is in very good condition too. I think I will clean her up and keep hoping for a granddaughter! Just wanted to share my good news. Beth
what a wonderful find! I found an american girl doll a few years ago at a goodwill for $3, but your deal was much better!
Awesome! There's a good thrift store near me. I'm in the habit of visiting it Friday or Saturday mornings. They always have cool stuff especially womens clothing, books and handbags. Congrats on your cool finds! Did you know American Girl dolls can be sent to the company for repairs and sprucing up? Just a thought if your needs a little extra help. They'll make it look new.
The American Girl thing is very cool - though very expensive. Alexis has 3-5 of them I think and loved the stories. Now they are waiting for the "next generation" to be as loving with them as she was. She bought all but 1 herself and did the whole tea party at a friend's house etc. She'd probably still play with them if she had friends that did.... that's an AWESOME find for you Wonder if it's "Julie" - you should find out who she is!
I love goodwill! It's my favorite bargain shop. I like the boxes of assorted odds & ends. We've found so many craft ideas digging through those boxes.
Our goodwill needs help..... seriously..... you would figure all these yuppies would have SOMETHING good to give away Of course DH always gets mad because we "freecycle" and the people pulling up are driving cars 2-3x the cost of ours.... he'd rather give stuff away to people who NEED it...
That's really cool My girls got their first ones for Christmas this year and wouldn't you know it, the new girl of the year doll shares a name with our middlest? She's saving up for that one on her own! I don't think the one you got is Julie though. One of our girls got her for Christmas and she has long blonde hair. I love Goodwill. My son calls it the pirate store for some reason and begs to go everyday!
Apparently Walmart as a whole does not carry Rollerblades anymore! So, I've been keeping an eye on our local thrift store.... What I found on Thursday instead was a bike for her.....(drumroll).......$12!!!! Perfectly good condition, hardly any wear on the tires! WOOO HOOOO~!
What it's about finding an awesome deal like that???? I love thrift stores and yard sales. I won't bore you with my finds for now. But also got 8 American Dolls for $20. I won't let my daughters keep more than 1 each and sold the rest. The hospital does a great job, but costs $35 per doll. To me that was expensive for just cleaning a doll; even though we did do it for our daughter's birthday.
Good for you! I LOVE going to the Goodwill's in my area too. In fact I went just the other day and came out with two Abeka books (in pretty good condition!). I don't use Abeka usually, but it's nice to have on hand, and my son likes to read the story books any way. Such a great way to get him reading in a no-pressure situation. And I really like the story content he gets with Abeka. I also got a nice pair of pants for my youngest, and a brand new (tags still on) romper for a 3 month old. I figure it would make a great gift!
My dad lives in Plain City, Ohio. And the name pretty much defines the town, lol! It was originally an Amish town. I remember, as a kid, driving out that way and seeing all the buggies. Though now it's more Mennonite, and buggies are rare. ANYWAY, homeschooling is common out that way. There's a thrift store in town that usually has plenty of homeschool books in it, though, unfortunately, usually not what I'm looking for!
