I have three daughters who, as of this summer, will be 12, 10 and 4. We have always used mainstream one piece bathing suits. My older daughters are feeling convicted that they should be more modest (and I agree.) That said, what do we buy?! The options are endless and the prices are high. What does your family do for bathing suits? Any suggestions for modestywear bathing suits?
I like the ones that they have at http://www.lovetolearn.net/catalog/detail/swim%20suit/5. They are on sale for $74.99. I don't buy swim wear so I don't know if that is a good price or not, sorry!
I like those! Super cute! Does your family go in the water? What do you wear if you do? I'm open to all ideas!!
I am really into wearing a tank top (or wife beater) with a pair of shorts. It works for me, and I don't wear the revealing stuff. I see the little girls in our neighborhood running around with bikini's on (with no water or sprinklers. Just running around on their bikes and so ofrth) and It really just makes me sick.
Lands End has great swimming outfits. We buy the tops [look like shirts and have SPF] and pair them with matching swim shorts. I love them!
I second the rash guard and swim shorts with a proper bottom underneath. They are cute, usually have SPF, and your kids won't stand out at all
I saw some really cute ones on Pinterest. I'll try to find it and post it again. But, usually (because I'm cheap), I go with the surf shorts and a tank top. I usually do a bikini bra top underneath, only because it gives me a lot of support up top which I very much need. I do not take the tank top off, but it is fun to have the colorful straps peeking out under the modest tank top. It is obvious that it's a swimsuit vs a bra, though, since I usually get a halter bikini top.
Here's the link: http://www.divinitasole.com/designer A little pricey, but oh so cute. I don't swim enough to justify buying at those prices though. Hence, my above conglomeration of surf shorts and tank top. Oh, this is the little girls section: http://www.divinitasole.com/little-girls-suits
My Dd12 had a tankini top last year and a swim short bottom with a skirt attached. It was the most modest we could afford. This year she will have the tankini top with board shorts with attached bottoms underneath.
We do regular one pieces or tankinis (great for bathroom purposes). Dd13 has a tankini with boy shorts and dd's 10 and 8 have just regular tankinis and regular one-piece suits. Since 2 of my girls are competitive swimmers, they are in swimsuits every day, but those suits are designed for swimming as a sport. My dd13's championship suit is neck-to-knee. Moving to a beach town has given us a whole new look into inappropriate swimsuits. Dd13 came home from a beach get-together giving me a run-down of who wore inappropriate suits and why. I'm glad she sees it! I was shocked at the skimpiness allowed and then photos of them posted on facebook pages for comments.
I also like Land's End. My dh isn't a Christian and prefers for everyone to wear "normal swimsuits", but I was able to convince him they were worth the extra money because his dad had skin cancer. The SPF long-sleeved, long-legged shorts sets help prevent that.
We buy the Land's End Tankini tops and board shorts. We also have rash guard tops. I love having swim wear that stays put, and doesn't show anything more than I might comfortably wear walking down the street. My DD and I did at one time have the Love-to-learn modest swim suits. They do look nice and stay put nicely, but are so inconvenient if you need to use the rest room. Very difficult to get on and off while wet.
That is what I'd be afraid of with the modesty suits. Nothing is worse than trying to pull up a wet swimsuit! I've been looking for an affordable rash guard for dd13. She is etremely fair skinned. Since we now live in a beach town and will be visiting often, I feel she needs more protection than a regular suit/sunscreen. T-shirts are uncomfortable (and dangerous) when wet. Where do you buy them for adults? Land's End is way out of my budget.
We do tankini with shorts. They are only allowed to wear them when they plan on swimming or getting really wet. We did the one pieces for years but switched because they were to hard to get back up after bathroom trips.
