I find that my family really gets enjoyment out of the simple things. I will list a few of ours and would love to hear yours. I also find that when you start to think about all of the little things in life that are great, it makes life in general seem that much better. For my son: We picked up 2 of his friends and went to a local drive thru car wash. For months he has asked to go, but we usually go to the full service place so they could vacuum. So, today I was going to take him to the one where you get to sit in the car. I decided to call his friends on spring break and invite them with us. The laughter and excitement from the back of the car was priceless. For me: Dropped ds off with a friend and I went grocery shopping ALONE. I am always amazed at how much easier it is to coupon shop by myself. And, it was early enough in the day that the store was not busy. Woohoo! Share what brings you joy!
Some evenings we turn off all of the lights, put the baby to bed, and turn on a kerosene lamp and read a couple of books before naptime. It's a comfy alternative to a fireplace. I got the very rare oppertunity to sleep in until 7:30 today! My normal wake up time is before 6, but for some freak reason the kids decided to sleep in!!!
A HOT BUBBLE BATH WITH A GOOD BOOK AND CANDLES!!! Can't get much better than that!!! Getting my garden ready for planting (which means shredding paper to put on it, and then layering straw on top of that). Watching a DVD with DH and the kids, with popcorn (Donavan's Reef tonight, with John Wayne!)
I was thinking about this walking home last night. It was dinner time but the girls were in such a good mood, they were smiling and giggling and relaxed. Everything on that familiar short walk home seemed to bring them joy. They both like blowing dandelion clocks so Miss 5 finds them and shares them with Miss one.
Gardening brings me a lot of pleasure. sitting under the tree with a book sitting outside on a warm evening while watching the stars with Handsome taking the dogs to the lake for a walk sitting on our front porch and watching traffic zoom by
I like jigsaw puzzles and quilting. I also love hearing a good thunderstorm. My family also likes to just sit and talk after dinner sometimes. When someone gets up, he often asks, "Are you coming back?"
my kids love when my mom goes through the automatic car wash.... when they were younger they said it was alien slime.......... I LOVE the smell of the 3 color foam!
That is too funny that you mentioned the smell. My son was telling his friends, "just wait until you smell the tri-color foam. You'll LOVE it!"
A few evenings ago a big thunderstorm rolled through, but it passed north of us. My son and I went out and watched the lightning like it was a fireworks show (it was many miles away so we weren't in any danger). It was really fun.
I freakin' LOVE that movie!!!!! Where's my seat and popcorn?!?! My alltime favorite John Wayne movie is McKlintock!!!!!OMG! *rifles through John Wayne Movies* You know, We named our boy Marion and his nickname is "Duke" LOL!!
I don't remember seeing that one. BUT...I put a reserve on it at the library! I think we'll have it for Friday night! I showed the Cowboys to my kids when we were studying the West. Though I didn't remember how rough the language got in places !
I was just thinking about this early tonight! I love working in my gardens. Tonight I planted watermelons in a new melon patch dh fixed up for me, then watered my herb garden, marigolds and sunflowers while dd9 sat at the picnic table for a good hour with her art easel and paints, painting a picture of the nearby field of spring flowers. The chickens were our scratching around and the birds were singing. It was awesome indeed. After that dd9 picked a large bouquet of bluebonnets and indian paint brushes from one of our fields and then we had dinner outside at the picnic table as the sun went down. What a perfect evening!
I love to lie on our wood deck after it has been warmed in the sun. Usually I have to wait until at least May, but I got to do it last week. Ahhhhh......
Reading to my grandson before bed... He's almost too tall! I'll hold him on my lap until his feet drag the floor, if I can!
My iced mocha during the kids nap time! I look forward to it all morning, and it gets me through the rest if the day! Also, there's something about a brand new pretty cup complete with lid and REAL plastic straw that gets me really excited! Combine the drink and the new cup and I'm thrilled to pieces!
Running water right here in my own little house. HOT water is an added bonus! Oh yeah - and a stove that works like magic with just a simple twist of a knob. A toilet. It's the simple pleasures that keep me going.
