I'm debating on using Simple Schooling's Anatomy study along with a couple of smaller units on cells as Biology for next year. What do you all think? Opinions? My son isn't the science oriented.... so I figured he likes her units a lot and it would work just find for his brain (and my budget)

She had it on sale for $6 for each semester on currclick then I downloaded the additional cell units and think I have it set!

I've been reading over it and like it a lot. Simple - straight to the point with no filler stuff which is really nice when you don't have a science oriented kid!

I use a mixture for my biology. I have 3 books that I have them use. Abeka's Biology, Christian Liberty's Biology and Biology: A Self Teaching Guide (secular). Many kids ago I sat down and went through each and made lesson plans. Yeah it took some time but I only had to do it once.

Each unit is 1 week.... so with the additions (because my son likes her stuff so he sits down and reads it - so it depends on if he is procrastinating or not) I think it will be the full year with some breaks.

I'm looking at it as a 3-day per week subject since it's not his favorite.

oKAY, SO.. we may do the same thing.... Lol Im such a copy cat! But ds will be a sophomore and I am looking for a Bio class, I am off to look at previews on the Simple site, I have the forensics and was thinking of inserting that in someplace too next year as its biological as well... If his sister stays here and does another year of cc he may take Biology at the college but ... I want him to enjoy science a little bit and am hoping to find something that will work... there is also the video lessons by Araura or whatever her name is, she is awesome but I just want to Biology stuff and she has you buy the whole thing. Ds really enjoys watching her videos though he knows half of what she talks about pretty much we saw how to make a simple hovercraft that would be great for a younnger person but he already knows how to make one you can ride on so... inventions he likes, biology may be a stretch for us Lol.

Same thing here - which is why I figure he can do human anatomy and get it over with :) It's simple, easy and I don't see MUCH fighting over it!

I've been looking at the examples and reading about Simple Schooling... I like her approach... I just wish there was a print copy that I could purchase. :?

That's a huge download and I can't do that at home; I'd have to go to a coffee shop. I'd rather pay a little more for a bound copy.

I teach Bio in a public school and Anatomy is barely addressed. We spend a lot of time on The Cell, Ecology, Genetics and of course Evolution. Now whether you agree or not with these concepts it is important to know they will be a large part of any college life science course (which is required at many universities). If I had to choose something that is the least difficult I would say add some Ecology, which is just the study of relationships between living things and their environment. Good luck and feel free to ask me if you need some help.

I definately will use the Forensic science as well, it is 54 pages long ... so that will fill in the cell, ecology and genetics from what I can see...

I added in specific units on mitosis (I think it was $1) and meiosis as those were tough for even my "bright" kid ;) She has a bunch to add in.

I have the forensic one and the horse one.... plus American History - but he opted to go back to Tapestry of Grace for that.... I love them all ;)

I just looked at the whole everything, there is so much to do! I like the online parts of her stuff though cause ds gets a lot from that verbal and visual mix.
Do do love curr-click specials though! I have been watching them lately to grab what I can for less.
I really think I can handle doing earthworms, and fish, we did that in secondary school in Va BC Canada , Earthworm was in 8th but the fish was tenth. so that I figure we can do that , and we have done cow eyes at a co op... actually we have done some human anatomy with lyrical science , it has a lot to learn from that dd did but ds did not so I will be adding that to my list of his lessons to correlate...Have you seen Lyrical Sc.?
