We are painstakingly making our way through Apologia Chemisty. I like the book. My son doesn't, but he wouldn't like any chemistry curriculum. We started chemistry in January (I think) with A Beka. Then I went back to Aplogia. We are in chapter 6 (we skipped ch. 2) and going slow through that chapter. I don't think we will finish the book, maybe not even close. I would like to have a year of chemistry though. I don't have any qualms about counting different things towards chemistry as long as they are related to chemistry. I am willing to go outside of the box. I would even be open to a more simple chemistry curriculum (for younger ages) to cement the basics. Does anyone know of any great experiment books that don't need an armload of expensive stuff to experiment with? Do you know of any younger chemistry books that would help cement those basics? I also wouldn't mind buying a reasonable experiment kit, if you can do the majority of the experiments without buying other stuff. It seems like a lot of kits need so much more after spending a lot of money. Please, any advice would be appreciated.
What about Christian Kids Explore Chemistry? We are using it in our weekly classes at The Academy (sort of like a coop). The kids are really enjoying the class. I am not teaching it, but it seems to cover a lot of information. Blessings, Susan
Gravitas Press, Real Science 4 kids - Chemistry level 2. It's Chemistry but it's meant for middle school age and is written at an easy reading level. I plan to use it for my HS daugter next year. It comes with a lab book, i'm assuming they're pretty easy to find resources, don't know for sure
