We do as my 12yr old daughter makes them from wool from our sheep. She sells them through our farm store (our house) I was just curious if anyone else uses them to save money?
we started using the things that stick on the dryer drumb, it works great! no more sheets piling up and no static cling. they last a few months too! 3-6 depending on size and how many loads, with your crew probably 3-5
I saw those the other day when I went to buy some dryer sheets, T'mom! They were new to me. So you like them better? Chicamarun, what exactly are you refering to? Your daughter MAKES them? What exactly are they?
Years ago i used those plastic dryers balls that were advertised on tv. I didn't see any difference when I used them except they were super loud bouncing around in the dryer. My dh hated the noise they made so I switched back to dryer sheets. Where I live now there is so much static that even adding 2-4 dryer sheets per load doesnt help. I have heard the wool ones are awesome but I have no idea where to buy them.
Yes Jackie I like them better, I got tired of trying to figure how I could reuse the sheets, and such, and forgot the liquid kind a long time ago, so when we saw these, you just buy the refills btw after the first time you slide in the new one out the old one, They are even coming out with new smells. I think is much more user friendly.
I use balls of tin foil. It works great! The kids love to find them and throw them back into the dryer. I have a satiny shirt that is always a problem static item and I was googling how to make it not a problem. I found the foil idea and thought it was worth a shot and man I was impressed. It worked so much better then even the dryer sheets do. Do the wool balls help with dog hair? I find more of the hair in the lint tray, and less on the clothes when I use the foil balls.
I use dryer balls because of all the chemicals in dryer sheets/fabric softener. I think it definitely helps the clothes to dry faster, but if you overdry, they still get staticy. Also, anything scented is awful for people with sensitive skin (which I have), so it's just easier to not use dryer sheets. Another thing you can do to eliminate static is use vinegar in the rinse cycle.
Emeryshae my sensitive skin is one reason I like my stick in the dryer kind, and why I would not be able to handle wool type thing because wool would get to me.
The wool doesn't leave residue on your clothes like fabric softener does! I would encourage you to read up on all the nasty stuff in fabric softener. You can also get plastic/rubber dryer balls. I have some of those too, and I really like them. Probably more than the wool ones.
The foil discharges it to the dryer drum I think. But not it doesn't shock you, like you would think it would. My daughters silky sheets don't even leave staticy anymore.
I may try the foil when I run out of my pod of softener stuff. check out my new thread on soap please?
I use them but I also toss in half or even a third of a dryer sheet with the kids clothes in the winter to help with the static because my toddlers kept complaining about "snocking" each other lol
Wool dryer balls are just that - 100% wool. She felts them and they are ready to go! DH uses 1 in his load of laundry and it cuts drying time down about 10 minutes - no static. I use 3 in my loads because I stuff as much as I can in there The natural lanolin in the wool is what helps with the static - the bouncing and separating of clothes is why the drying time is reduced. She doesn't sell them online (yet) - but she has a set of 3 for $29.95 and each one is about the size of a tennis ball. She is now selling them at the farmer's market with me and selling 2-4 sets a WEEK (yes she is raking in the $$ - especially since she is making and selling fudge as well). If you want a set, you could mail her a check or paypal me. I'd have to check shipping since it'd be an odd shaped package or do the small priority mail box.
