Does anyone have any experience with a logic curriculum for high schoolers? I'd like to have my son complete a basic course over the summer, but am having a little difficulty finding a good, concise system. Thanks.
Haven't used it yet, but I'm planning on using Critical Thinking Book 1, which is designed to be a year-long subject at high school level (we're talking one lesson a week here). If you only do every second exercise or something every weekday, I'm sure you can do it all over the Summer months. It has a chapter on symbolic logic (which is tedious and a lot of people skip and it doesn't affect later chapters if you do skip it), and it covers both informal and formal logic. Were you only wanting one particular branch of logic? I'd buy the teacher's manual, which has the answers to the exercises, as well if you want to purchase it. It can be followed with Critical Thinking Book 2 if your son gets into it. But even with the first book, it won't be a watered-down logic course, nor will it be way above his head like most logic texts. It's a nice book.
We haven't gotten there yet, but I plan to go through Classical Academic Press. http://classicalacademicpress.com/i...Path=2&zenid=041e590ef073f3c4106242e9f453b959 Art of Argument is for grades 7+ and is an intro to logic. It's a semester course. Argument Builder is the 2nd semester book. Discovery of Deduction is a one-year course that is meant to be used last.
I had bought that for this year and never got around to it! We are definitely using it next year. Probably one a week...that would stretch it all year.
I have a few: Analogies I (Jake) Argument Builder (Jake) & Critical Thinking Book I (Alexis - stretching it out) I also love 5 minute mysteries (the audios are fun to listen to in the car) and I am looking at a few other fun ones to read/listen to (especially for our other 15 year old who likes this type of thing)
Thank you to everyone who answered. I now have a great little list to choose from, and feel like I have a good direction. Again, muchas gracias.
