Am I the only one who has fun creating stuff for the kids to learn and play with?! lol I started making these little sea creatures to cut in half so he could match and I spent far too much time coloring them (he's 2... probably doesn't appreciate my great art work as much as I like to think he does...plus he tears them up fairly quickly) but I have to say I kinda can't wait to go back to school! ha! I read a lot of your posts and it's so exciting to hear all the fun things you are all doing with your kids! I'm cool with relearning stuff!

You are not alone! I have way more fun creating the stuff than the kids have actually using it. I especially loved the Pompeiian mosaics we did, the kids thought it was lame. When my youngest was learning to read, I made little catepillars with letter combos on them for him to create different words. I even took pics of them, I was so proud of them. I think they ended up in the floor getting dog slobber on them. *sigh* No one appreciates a creative genius. LOL

haha! I took pictures too! I'm so glad I'm not alone! this gives me such a great excuse to do kiddie crafts at 23! He does love the matching game I made for him though... just not sure how long construction paper will withstand the tornado that is my son ;)

I am a huge fan of making things for fun and learning. When Ems was younger, we had a blast! We still have a blast but the things we make have changed and while I completely enjoy this time in our lives, there is something so special about the younger years.

I spend far too much time on this sort of stuff, but it feels so good somehow! I know exactly what you mean.

I've spent hours and hours perfectly coloring, cutting out, and laminating (using contact paper) pre-school file folder games (hours each) only to have them tossed in the toy box and forgotten after the first use. lol

You know, he might not appreciate them NOW, but I bet 50 years from now he'll look back and think 'my mom spent a lot of time making these things for me' And I think that's what counts anyway, what will our children remember 10 years, 30 years, 50 years from now? Hopefully they remember the important things we tried to teach them, and spending hours making toys and games and books for them, teaches them we care about them. And you can't buy that at Toys R Us or the Apple store! :)

I've also spent hours making them things for them to be played with once then forgotten...But it's a labor of love!

Girl you need to go out and get thee a laminator! ASAP! I mostly print free printables from around blogland and I laminate it all so it will last through all four of my current kiddos and any more we may have.

This is directly on subject, but my dd hated coloring when she started school. I blame the Christian school we sent her to for pushing her too much to color in the lines. What's so funny is that she loves crafty things now that she is in high school. It's one reason we like Mystery of History's timeline.

On topic, I enjoyed making study aids, too. But, I enjoy creating spreadsheets more.
