My mom has been having a really tough time for about a year now, but in February took a turn for the worse. They found a blockage in her intestines and she went in for emergency surgery. Since the last surgery in February, Mom has been in a rehab facility. She is not eating and her weight has dropped by 17 pounds which is a lot for her because she is only 4'10" and only weighed 109 to begin with. This has made her too weak to do anything at all on her own, so she is having a feeding tube inserted on Tuesday--she is not happy about that, and will be released on Thursday. Mom wants to come home (she now lives with my sister since my 89-yr-old mother-in-law who has Parkinson's lives with my family). Medicare covers 100 days in rehab, which ends 6/14, so my sister and I have been interviewing home health care companies, having care meetings with her drs, social workers, PT, OT, etc... this week because my mom will need round-the-clock care. Please pray for Mom during this transition and that she will regain some of her strength once she is on the feeding tube. Also, pray please for her grandchildren (my sister has two kids ages 9 and 11, and I have 3 children) because it has been so hard for them to see their grandmother decline so rapidly. She has been such a strong force in their lives. She is truly the matriarch of our family. Each of the kids has/had a special, personal relationship with her. They are all taking this very hard. I try to remain positive and strong for my family, but between my mom and my mother-in-law (and that's a whole other story dealing with her illnesses), this week it has all come to a head and I feel emotionally, mentally, and physically drained. Thanks, Michelle
((( hugs and prayers ))) We've been dealing with my mils illness these past two weeks, so I understand. My mil has had to be put in a nursing home. ((( hugs again )))
Thanks for all your prayers. Mom is already off of the feeding tube completely (at least for now). Being home has really lifted her spirits. We're soooo happy for her.
