THIS IS LONG< SORRY! I just had to unload someplace where people would understand and be able to help me get back focused----
I am feeling like I want to stop school today cause its my normal day to do so, but we are no where near finished this year. I am so glad I am changing up my
lessons to text books and me teaching more because allowing him to be independent study was not working. My dd can't figure out why the boys did not learn the same way she does, lol, I told her they learn differently than she does and she said well they should change that! lol
I told her she should get a teacher degree for English because she is way smart in Grammar and all that important stuff , Somehow I did a great job of teaching! Yeah me!

Okay back to this year, I digressed ... I am discouraged about the incomplete work thus far. We were so far behind When I started my baseball PE classes and that cut into our lesson time. The good thing is we got the right amount of hours in for PE credit this year. He totally improved is paying and has been asked to be on the same team next fall so he can learn Pitching! The coach even announced that he was going to pitch ds in the fall to his son and the other guys who were saying he should pitch Ds! So over all my taking that time with him gave him a boost in confidence and social abilities too. ( he was so down cast from the last bball group we had been in that we switched last year to this BabeRuth group of people and we love them! They are super good and ds has friends instead of being beat up literaly during a game by his own players) okay so This year has its good points, we progressed in PE, he totally enjoyed the intro to Biology in his SOS, cant wait till next year to do full course of it even. We are stuck behind though in History, and Spanish, I decided to do SOS SPanish secondary spanish? It has 12 units, we got through 6 , so tell me those of you who have done this is it really a 1 year or two year course? dd did it in a year but she is fast learner, ds had struggles, we regenerated and regenerated.

REMIND ME--- I am the leader of my home school and I can decide when I am done for the year,

---- that its okay if I do not finish the books totally off.... every year. in every subject.
--- Remind me that its ME who is the boss not DD who tries to be, ( 18 yr old and all that lol)
and that I do not have to feel guilty about not getting done...
    yet

I want to start summer break now, but I can't so I need this encouragement to keep going maybe another week of half days at least.... ds will be okay with half days, he knows is friends finish off this week totally though and so he is a bit envious.

Why can't you start summer break and pick up where you left off when school resumes? If it is a matter of "falling behind", he already is. Not that I think he is falling behind, but he hasn't completed what you had hoped he'd complete.
Do you homeschool under a different option other than as a private homeschool. CA homeschool regulations DO NOT require set hours for PE or any subject. It only requires that we cover the same subjects as the public school. So if you are under another option, then obviously you have to follow their rules. If you operate privately, then lighten your load and your sons load. You can always work on school a few days a week or once a week or whatever works best for your family. If he struggles in school and doesn't take what might be a much needed break, he is only going to fall more "behind". If you operate privately, the ball is in your court to not coomplete everything by a certain date. If you are operating privately, then (I mean this in the most loving way!  ) you are only making things harder on yourself by not enjoying the flexibility that comes with operating as a private school.

I think he is more beind in my head than reality, looking at the books he will be done with both Math and SOS today, Spainish we are doing the rest next year. The PE thing was to please the pastor at church who insists that private schools need to follow so many hours of PE... I figure if I did an hour or so a week plus the four hours of practice/games he did enough haha, but you are right no worries there. His behind to me is that I did not make my day of today.. but technically when I looked back at my year plan I had the end of next week as our end date as of this semester start. Patty you are so right about the CA thing I am private school option of course. this is why I posted cause I needed that reminder.
I just get so caught up in the friends kids are doing this and that that I forget my own plans sometimes. Ds just informed me I must have given him too many classes this year hahha, I did in the begining. but not second semester, and I admited I allowed the College students to rull the road this year. It took me away from helping and reminding him to keep on task.

I think you did great! I'm still new at this but it is my opinion that I (and my child) are never behind. That's the beauty of homeschooling.

Perhaps your son needs two years to complete on of Spanish. Again I'm new at this but I'm about going at my child's pace as much as possible. But I cannot imagine a time that I won't have to prod my children along in their work. lol

You CAN do this. You CAN finish next week of half days. You ARE the boss, and it is PERFECTLY find not to finish up every single book, every single year.
I bet your son is doing even better than you think, and you NEED to take a breath and relax and enjoy the rest of your year. (((BIG hugs)))

IT IS OKAY FOR YOU TO STOP WHEN YOU WANT TO STOP! AND START WHEN YOU WANT TO START. AND CHANGE WHAT YOU WANT TO CHANGE. AND TEACH THE STUDENT HOW THEY LEARN VS. HOW THE WORLD SAYS THEY SHOULD LEARN.

There, now. Do you feel better!? ((((HUGS))))

Your post made me smile. I did have a year like that my first year where I was worried about getting done. The reason for my smile is I realized getting caught up I actually now do starting in July. So I get caught up before I ever get behind. I did not even realize that is what I was doing till I read your post!

I would say to you finish whatever you need to finish for your piece of mind. That clear mind is priceless when you start deciding what to do for the next year. Your sweet daughter is looking back as a student, and can not see from the teachers chair yet. Even I thought teaching could not be all that hard! LOL I have the highest respect for teachers now!!!! So teacher do what you think is best!!!
