I figure maybe back to school season might be the best time to buy so I'm going to TRY to save up enough to buy the kids a cheap laptop for the classroom & to keep little hands off my very expensive laptop so it's lasts longer LOL

They don't need anything fancy at all. Just internet access for starfall.com, clicknkids.com and so we can watch videos for school, etc I doubt I even install word on it....

Does anyone know of any awesome sales for a regular size laptop (not a netbook) for under $300? (That's the cheapest I can currently find.)

Wal-Mart often has clearance models for around 225-250, and during back to school you can usually find a bundle deal for laptop, case, and printer for around 320 (which if you don't need the extras you can sell them to recoup some of your money).

Our first year homeschooling, I waited until Black Friday and stood in line at Walmart's to get a laptop for $199. It was worth it. It has been a great laptop for the kid's school. I may try to stand in line this year for another one.

Wait for the specials - find them online..... things like that. We got our DS15 one from staples during a 1 day sale for $499 - it was $799 before (he needed certain specs)! My husband's I got around black friday $329 - awesome deal for him.....

My kids all want "regular" laptops and mine is about to be too small for me and my business - so 1 child might get this one to use while I get a higher end one :)

This place tells you where all the good buys are each week. The sales change on Sundays. Probably is the ads that come in your Sunday newspaper but so much easier to read in my humble opinion! I've been using if for years and have found so many great bargains.

Be careful, though, because you do tend to get what you pay for. Personally, I've had good success with Lenovo (which took over the IBM PC business a few years ago). They have low-end as well as high-end models and recently had a pretty good sale at their website.

Haha I'm aware of that. But the goal is to keep rough little boys off mommy's computer which I paid a lot for :)

At 5 and 8 their computer time is very limited... to school related and it's basically Starfall, clicknkids, Kids4truth and some youtube videos to reinforce lessons for my visual learner.

With that in mind a low end computer will serve our purpose just fine I think.

Thanks Steve and Teacher - I've seen some good deals on Lenovo but I wasn't sure how good a brand it was. Nice to hear feedback on them.

For children that age, I would consider a netbook. A couple of years ago, we bought an Acer netbook for our two youngest children. They are not the best quality (lines started appearing on the screens after 18 months), but they are cheap and ideal for pre-teens. Walmart used to sell them.
