This will be our first year homeschooling and the kids are very excited. But happened to think about yearbooks. They were way to expensive at the kids charter school so we never got me but wondered if any of you did and how you did it?? Any suggestins would be great!!!
One of the hs groups we belong to does them but we don't get it. What I thought I would do is just make a scrapbook (eventually) with pictures of events, school projects and whatever. It will be much more personal and still have pictures of friends and lots of memories.
I would just put together a scrapbook for each of the kids. You could do it digitally and have the pages printed really cheap by sending them to walmart.com, or you could do it the "old fashioned" way and each kid could have their own. If you aren't all that artsy/crafty, I really think digital is the way to go, you can find free layouts all over, throw in your pics and wala.
You might check out Picaboo. They have photo books with all different kinds of designs, some of which are 'yearbook' in nature.
We get yearbooks through our co-op (they even do pictures of the nursery kids!). But a Blurb Book would be great instead, since you can edit the layout throughout the year (free software), and not have to do it all at once. You could use "yearbook" as school time, too.
When I homeschooled my two dds my oldest was the driving force behind making a yearbook. It was a cooperative yearlong project for my girls and all their homeschooled cousins, and myself and my sisters-in-law to help with materials. And one of my sisters-in-law bound the yearbook. It is like a scrapbook I suppose.
Juneug, that is cute!!! I know the kids would love to help with it and will be a great memory for them as a family as well. Can't wait!!!
I was just looking through it and came across the predictions of what each one would be doing in 15 years...really funny...not one of the predictions are even close...of course they were all just for fun. Fifteen years would have been 2009 I think. lol
I found one of the other yearbooks the girls did also, but the file won't upload...well it had the same title but the girls had learned to use cute printer paper for the title page that saved us time and effort and printing costs. I now homeschool my oldest daughters 3 kids and the 12 year old girl thinks making a yearbook is a cool idea. Sooooo...here we go again. lol
We're going to do a homemade printed one this year. I'll laminate the cover and use a comb binding. Doing it all myself makes the cost minimal. I'm using this free powerpoint download as a template http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/180-Days-of-School-Power-Point I take a picture a day and tada! Yearbook!
I made a book for Rachael's graduation with Shutterfly. It was on sale. I paid $31 for 28 pages, with free shipping over $30. Actually, the book I wanted was $25 on sale, and I decided to add extra pages to get it to $30 because of the free shipping. Turned out shipping would have run me $8, so I'm glad I did it. They walk you through it, and everything. It's a hard cover, and I'm VERY pleased with it!
I had a hardcover book made at through Kodak for my parents. It was just printed and bound pages of a digital scrapbook I had made of my daughters first year. I plan to do a homeschool yearbook the same way. It cost about $20 and they are always running deals.
Those printed books from photo place are really nice sometimes. If you want to go that route, sign up for the emails from the company, you can usually get several books/year free. I've used ArtsCow, York Photo, Shutterfly and one more that I can't remember right off hand. Also, Walgreens has some free photo things. I have an 8 x 10 collage from our field trips our first year homeschooling that I got for free. ETA: There are also sites that will print a blog in book format, so you could blog your way through the school year then have it printed out into a yearbook.
