Does anyone know of a homeschool used book store around the San Antiono, Corpus Christi, Tx area? I know CC well and have not found any, but you never know. I have all these books that I need to get rid of , so I was just wonder... and Does Half price books buy homeschool stuff? Thinking it might be a good idea for someone to open one!...hint hint...
Yes, HPB takes homeschool curricula, but they pay pennies compared to what it's worth. I wouldn't go there. You'd get more as a tax write off donating the books to a charity. I don't know of any used bookstores there, no. Do you have a co-op group or something that does a sale? I'm north of Austin, and we have one every year where you pay $10-15 for a table and set up like a vendor fair. HS'ers come from all around to shop for 2-3 hours one night each spring. That's where you get a fair price (both buying and selling).
Don't sell it to HPB. Any time I tried to sell books there, I got $3 per bag, no matter what kind of books. There is a yahoo group in SA- SAEducationalBookSwap (??I think). If you are outside the city, you just let it be known in your post whether you will need to ship or be willing to meet in SA. FEAST has a used curriculum room in their store, but I always found it to be mostly full of old, outdated materials and ps textbooks. I don't think they purchase used curriculum. They only take donations.
They are right HPB gives you diddly squat compared to what you can get on your own. You can also try listing on line (here or a number of other forums, etc.) If you sell on-line, you will find that some stuff sells like hotcakes and some stuff just doesn't sell, but it is worth a try. I have never had a hard time selling good math curriculum-life of Fred, teaching textbooks, and math u see. I think one thing that helped me is that I didn't let my son write in the student books, so I could sell the whole set is very good condition.
I have gone to the hpb in cc they given me good money.. have you try posting them on craigslist first.
You can list here, but new members have a hard time buying/selling because the regulars don't know your reputation yet. There have been many trolls on forums like this. Homeschool Classifieds is a good idea, though.
Or if you can find a good reason to come up to Houston, we have a great Homeschool Store here (aptly named The Homeschool Store) that will buy your used curriculum. http://www.thehomeschoolstore.com/
