Do I need to purchase the lab kit that goes with the Apologia Zoology 1? Most of it looks like household goods.

    Thanks!

All the items are usually easy to find. We've done 2 elementary books and general science and I have never had a problem finding supplies. :)

We're using Zoology 1 this year and I've been doing lesson plans. I think the lab kit would be nice only because it would save me the hassle of trying to find some of the items in my small town (like two different strength magnifying glasses). For the most part, though, the list is all stuff I can gather on my own. I wonder if the kit would be more cost-effective (especially given the needed time and gas for me to run to the city), but I don't know.

We did Zoology 1 last year and I didn't buy the kit. It was easy enough to find everything I needed.

I don't know which would be more cost effective. I just know that I wasn't able to spend the money up front on the kit last year and won't be able to for Zoo 2 this year either. I just plan on getting things as I need them.

I would say it isn't needed but it would be convenient. I would probably purchase if money wasn't an issue.

    Cost effectiveness...

I was also wondering about the cost-effectiveness... I guess I'll see how my budget works out. I'm assuming the lap book is needed?:?

Lap Book? I didn't even know there was a lap book. Unless you mean the journal. In which case, the text says it's not necessary (you can do create the lab sheets and such on your own). But I think it would be really boring without the coloring pages, crossword/word searches, minibooks, etc. that come in the journal (we're using the Jr. Journal). Plus the forms are much easier to follow than the directions (I'm a visual person, I'd struggle without the forms).

This is our first year with Apologia but I have chosen to do a lapbook from ajourneythroughlearning.com rather than the journal. They are on sale right now. Download is like $9 and of course there's printing and supplies but I think I will still come out cheaper since I am using it with multiple kiddos. Just a thought.
