I know this is probably a long shot and most people seem to buy cheap printers (cause it's cheaper to buy a printer than to buy ink! LOL) but my big, fancy printer (that I LOVE) and that I buy $0.60 ink cartridges for, sadly, was killed last night by our storm/power outage.

Are there any chain stores that do printer repair that anyone knows of?

Josie, if you know the manufacturer, look up on their website, they usually have a list of repairmen in the area you live in. I had something happen to my cheapo laser printer, and found someone local to service it...just needed a cleaning and a tune up and it was fine. It cost probably about half what it would cost to replace it, what was with it to me was supporting a local business man, too.

If you can't fix it, look for a Brother printer NOt LASER that takes LC51 or LC61 cartridges.. I pay about $16 a year to print in full color buying generic ink on ebay or amazon in bulk.. oh and that is like a case or more of paper a year that I go through!

    That's what I have. :D I have a brother MFC-6890CDW Which is now over $500 on Amazon.

Krista-great idea! Thanks! I'll check the Brother website.

I'm jealous... I want duplex so bad..lol Mine is older, duplex was just coming out when I bought mine... at least on home machines. I don't have wireless, but it's hooked up to hubby's and with our homegroup I can print from my laptop anywhere in the house.

Ha it WAS! And I'm so replacing it with the exact same printer (though I don't know how I"ll ever afford to!!!). Of all the inanimate objects in my home it's in my top three materialistic things I love!

I think it would only be eclipsed by my front loading washer and dryer that sing to me..lol And then my computer(s).... and then my tablet that I dropped the other day and am missing terribly! But, yeah, a killer printer is my dream. I am happy with mine, but dream of duplex. I bust my butt a lot to print double sided.

I'd say computer, printer then it's a hard call for 3rd place...either my Kirby vacuum or my cheap super awesome breadmaker.

I love my bread machine.. like fuzzy heart kinda love..lol I never seem to be able to keep a vacuum working long enough to love one (kids and socks can do a number to any freaking one of them... even a dyson!)

I'm such a gadget girl, I would die if I ever had to chop another onion by hand... Ilove my mini food proccessor thing, I would never be able to make my kids an unburned pancake without my electric griddle, and I would definately be in 7th heaven if I had a dishwasher... for now my disgruntled 13yo will have to do for that one.. but even the noisiest worst working dishwasher would probably be better than he is..hahaha.

Did you find anyone to take your printer to?

ACK!!!! I thought my printer was just toast!!!!

I was cleaning it and poof I get an error message. TONS of hunting online brought me to the knowledge that there is a "gimmick" type thing where after so many cleanings it thinks it can't do it any more and give you an error message. I learned how to get into maintance mode and clear the code to get it up and going again.. boy was I ever scared! Hubby is having problems with his jeep which are costing us a fortune to figure out... I was afraid I would be out a printer a month or two.

Have you googled till you were blue in the face to see if you can find a solution?

Well for now we're waiting on the insurance adjuster to come out. Our deductible is $1000 but we think the storm got our printer and AC, if it did, it might be worth it to pay the $1000 deductible,. I'm waiting on the adjuster to call now...

If it won't cover the AC unit though, then I'll look for someone to fix it, then a way to replace it. I'm just bummed cause I just bought a year's worth of ink...*Sigh*

We've been hit so hard this last week! Printer, AC unit, my check engine light on my van is on and my blender died. I've replaced the blender (cause we use it 4-5 times a week and it was the cheapest thing to replace! LOL)

I used to go through vacuum cleaners like water! Like 1-2 a year!!! Until I got my Kirby, (I have this one) which is why I adore it soooooooooo much! It's also why I wanted it. I had heard the stories of people getting their mother's 25 year old Kirby and it still worked like a dream, so I figured hey, it might be worth it. It sooooo was. We haven't had a bit of problems out of it and I've had it for 5 or 6 years now.

I was a bit worried since 'they don't make things like they used to' but I'll have to say, I really am impressed with the quality. I think it really might be one of those things that lasts for 25 years.

It has a shampooer attachment as well. Which is nice, but I don't use it much. I do love the hard floor attachment though, it works super great.

I had wanted one for years, once we could afford it, hubby finally got it for me once he realized how quick we were going through vacuums since I vacuum almost daily. (2 boys, a cocker spaniel and allergies LOL) and that even cheap vacuums, if they have to be replaced yearly, cost a fortune in the long run! I was really worried I regret it as they are pricey, but I don't regret it a bit, totally worth it.

I want a mini food processor so bad! I have a mandolin I use for onions and such for now though that my mom gave me when she got a new one.

I like my gadgets too. I love our Kindle Fire, I'd love an iPad but the Fire is more my price range :), I also ADORE my Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer. I have wanted one for YEARS I finally found a super deal on one so hubby let me get it for our anniversary :) I have these quick rolls I make often and it's so nice to toss everything in and let the mixer do the kneading while I do other things!

Most gadgets I love are homeschool related LOL I'm not much of a Kitchen gadget person. I have my mixer, crock pot, bread maker and blender and I'm a pretty happy gal in the kitchen.

The same thing happened to my Canon Photo printer but I knew that even if I cleared the code, the absorber pads still needed to be replaced ir cleaned. I went ahead and researched it and found out how to remove and clean the waste ink absorber pads.
