Just wanted to let you guys know that they are doing a "going viral" sale and it is 4.95 to sign up instead of 70 something. I am not planning to use it as my actual curriculum but thought it would be nice to have stuff for science and social studies which I am not planning on purchasing actual curriculums for.

It certainly looks "complete", from the samples I saw. However, I was not able to look at the LA for K, 1, or 2. The 3 and 4 had some typos in the samples I saw. Not many, but enough to be annoying to me. In one place, leaving out a negative made a whole paragraph totally meaningless.

I glanced at the first grade math. It seemed okay.

I looked at the first grade science. On one of the worksheets, Lesson 4, it's talking about how scientists observe things, and asks the students to measure five different things using clothes pins and pennies as two different measures. This is cut-and-pasted directly from their worksheet. I turned it red for emphasis, and bolded a word:
When measuring you objects lay the clothes pins end-to-end and see how many clothes pins it takes to measure each item. Next, take your pennies and lay them end-to-end and see how many pennies it takes to measure the same item.
Why did it take more clothes pins than pennies?

Notice the misuse of "you" when "your" is intended. In what universe does it take more clothes pins (about 3 inches each) laid end to end than pennies (about what? a half inch each?) laid end to end (where's the end of a penny?) to measure the same object???

If these people can't be any more careful than that with their product, I don't think I'll be using them, at any price. As I looked at the samples, I couldn't help but think of all the expensive color printing it would take to use these pages for a whole year's curriculum! It would be cheaper to just buy some books or workbooks, or a notebook and pencil, and get library books for free.

ETA: I went back just out of curiosity, and checked out second grade science. Judging by the table of contents, they spend 6 weeks on the same objectives: seed/stem/flower/fruit and name a plant's needs. In one student page, they want the kids to brainstorm a list of everything in the room that was made from plants or is a kind of plant. Once you think you have as many items on your list, share it with your teacher. Could this possibly have been worded any more awkwardly?? As many as what? It could have said, "When you think your list is complete, share it with your teacher." That would have been clearer.

I tried this just because it was only $4.95, to see if it was worth supplementing. I haven't used a THING with my older children 9second & fourth grades). I pulled some of the math for my kindergartener, mostly for practice, since he's "finished" k math but isn't really ready for 1st grade math. Anyway, not really impressed. Some concepts are confusingly presented, others are presented in an instructional order that is not logical.

I doubt I would renew at $5, much less full price.

I was not impressed with what I saw there. Also, when you order it, you are set to auto renew and it will automatically renew you at the $70 price tag.

I turned off the autorenew as soon as I signed up. I am using it for kindergarten social studies and a bit of the science so in looking at it I believe I will use enough of it to make it worth $5. We are using Horizons for math and either McRuffy or AAR for phonics so I doubt I will use anything in either of those. You can use up to 10 "textbooks" for the $5 so that can be a combination between many different grade levels..

That being said, I am purchasing complete curriculums for everything beginning 1st grade so I doubt that I will renew but it looks good to supplement with this year for us =)
