After several years of trying to convince my husband that we should homeschool our youngest he finally (after two very bad years of grade reports) agreed with me. We decided to test out our sons commitment to the idea by doing a "review" of seventh grade science- which he had failed for the year. Throughout the school year we spent hours on homework with him each and every day and saw how hard he worked, and could not figure out why the teachers kept saying he was not working hard enough, one even called him lazy. We purchased a workbook to use for the experiment, and he and I got to work. We sat down for what I had planned to be about an hour (thought we'd start off slow) and 6 hours later we finished not only his first chapter, but an experiment and a chapter test as well! The longer hours were totally driven by him- and he got an 87 on his test. He was so proud of himself he was grinning ear to ear and couldn't wait to show my husband when he got home. I had to go to my room and cry. Since then he has dutifully gotten up and done "his work" even though his siblings and friends are all enjoying summer vacation. Not even a complaint. My family doesn't really understand how big a deal this is, as they cannot believe I am going to homeschool him, but I thought you guys might "get it"...

That is a wonderful example of a parent knowing his or her child and doing whatever it takes to help them succeed. Way to go mom!

Wow! That is awesome! What a testament to how big a difference it can make to work with him one-on-one. Kids are different, and they each need different things. Good for you both!

So glad you were able to seek out a way to help your son succeed. It is wonderful that he is wanting to work hard with you. Welcome and I hope to hear many more wonderful stories as you begin your homeschooling journey.

    That's awesome!

Sometimes a kid just needs to feel a little bit of success to feel motivated. Great job, Mom.

Can't wait to hear what "Dad" says.

Way to go!! Its great when you can help your child succeed and help build their confidence! It will most likely get easier for him as you work one on one with him and he realizes that he can do it.

Thanks for all the support. As we completed chapter after chapter and my husband saw how happy and confident our son was he got 100% behind us and even started ordering the materials! It's such a relief to have finally made the decision and be moving forward with it!
