The blogging bug has bit again. With a new school year on the horizon, it's a good time. I restarted my old personal blog yesterday. My homeschool blog (at homeschoolblogger) no longer recognizes me (aka: I can't remember my password and can't reset it), so I have one on Blogger. It's blank. All this rambling to ask, do you keep your blogs separate? Or do you just have one blog that you eclectically use for all topics (personal and homeschool)?
I have recently started a second blog...more personal. I left it anonymous, although I'm sure my friends would recognize me. My "regular" blog is generic family stuff -- homeschooling, our lives, gardening, events ,etc. The more personal blog is about my sort of wrangling personally with the economic impact and how we (my husband and I) are approaching dealing with it. It's very, very rambly and rather unprofessional (which is kind of appropriate, since I'm not a professional blogger). The thing is, since I created this other, quasi-anonymous blog where I can really brain dump, I find I'm much better at updating the family/homeschool/life in general blog. It's as if it's cleared a mental pathway. Or something
I blog about everything on my blog... what ever is on my mind that day.. school, home, weather. what I am cooking or baking...
I don't blog, but I just wanted to say thanks--now that song will be stuck in my head the rest of the day.
Currently, I have two -- a personal one that died a slow death and will likely not be resurrected. And then I have my recipe blog. I recently signed up for a WordPress blog thinking I would combine my recipes, homeschooling, and general life in one area; but I got a little lax on getting started. WordPress seemed easy at first, but now it's not working exactly the way I thought it would. I may go back to blogger, I understand they have the function of multiple "pages" on one blog, now... hmmm... So, I guess that was really not a lot of help! I originally liked having different blogs for different topics; but with the ability to have different "pages", I kind of like it altogether, I think.
Unless you plan to blog for money, one blog is way easier (only one user name and password to remember! LOL) use categories (WP) or labels (Blogger) to keep it organized. If you plan to turn a profit, sell ad space or review products for companies, then it's best to be rather focused. If not, it's way easier just to keep up with one blog.
I have a blog for "whatever". I used to blog all. the. time!, but after joining FB, I only blog about every 4-6 weeks now. I've always said I'd use my blog as a way to look back at what my kids were doing at certain times in their lives, and so my kids could look back and see "me" as well. I also keep up with it because we have no family in the area. The closest family we have are 4 hours away (in-laws), so my side (especially my 83 y/o grandmother) insist on seeing my blog updated.
I have been blogging off and on for the past seven years. I have changed it and it's name so many times that I think I at least have the name that is going to stay. as for content ya it's whatever i am doing at the moment. I have done homeschooling, military life, crafts, outings, recipes and scouting. Before school I posted quite a few Cricut projects then I stopped for a bit due to PC issues. Now that I have a laptop, camera i am good to go. i also have the app on my itouch so I can download my pictures easier too. now that i am schooling and hubby is preparing to leave my blog will go back to getting 'dust' on it or I might blog more cuz he's gone
If anyone is interested, there is a Facebook group for homeschoolinng bloggers and website owners to help promote each other's blogs and websites. Your blog doesn't have to be about homeschooling, you just have to be homeschooling and have a blog or website about something that might interest other homeschooling parents. For example, there are blogs about motherhood and a website about camping. https://www.facebook.com/groups/128794910577660/
