    hi... new here..

Please pray for my families financial needs... we hs'ed for many years at great personal sacrifice. I have a blog that explains our situation, but cannot post that here.

Your prayers would be much appreciated. I will try to explain more, if anyone is interested. I am getting ready to leave town for a few days, and will be back by the end of the week.

I am sorry....I really feel for you because we have had a lot of financial problems ourselves....which ended up escalating to something we never thought would happen just last year. It's really tough. Also last year I found out that our school district has a homebased educational program that we enrolled it. What a blessing that has been (truly....I don't know how I could have bought anything for my kids if we were still on our own). Have you looked into something like that, or virtual schools in your state? I know a lot of homeschoolers are very much against such a thing. But, you have to do what is best for your family....there's no shame in being a part of a program like that. I still consider myself a homeschooler....I am still able to be home every day with my kids and help them learn. I like the program we are in because I can pick what I want to use, they pay for it, and there are very few strings attached. I admit I was a little unsure about disclosing that at this site (I am fairly new myself here), but I have mentioned it on another thread and so far I haven't found anyone here that wants to kick me out saying I don't belong here (fingers crossed...). You are in my thoughts and prayers.

rob42, stick around, we're some pretty nice people to know, whether you're homeschooling at the current moment or not! And we'll pray for you, just like we all pray for each other around here.

Batmanswife, if they were kicking people out because of the style of schooling they do at their house, then they "should have" kicked me out long ago. I don't homeschool anymore, but instead I'm schooling Other People's Kids. We're neither fish nor fowl, so to speak - I call it private schooling, but public school calls us homeschooling (shows how much they know about it), and homeschoolers call us schooling. I'm not ducking tomatoes, so relax!

Thank you Lindina...you are sweet. :D

I am a little concerned as to why rob42 wants to delete their post. I hope I didn't say anything to offend. I truly was only trying to be somewhat helpful or understanding.

Asking for a prayer need is never stupid!

I think many of us have been there (statistically homeschool families are larger than average one-income families)

I know we homeschooled for 2 years while living on hubby's severance package then unemployment. It wasn't easy, but we did it. Thanks to prayers and free resources.

If your need is curriculum based there are many options. You can try http://www.thebooksamaritan.com/p/contact.html (totally free)

    http://www.homeschoolfoundation.org/index.php?id=22 (grants)

    http://curriculumshare.com/index.php (just pay shipping)

or just use free resources. I have many listed here http://gapeachhomeschool.yolasite.com/ and here http://www.homeschoolfreeb.com/p/free-websites.html

There are tons of free websites like http://www.homeschoolfreebie.wholesomechildhood.com/ and http://www.freehomeschooldeals.com/

Or you can use sites that offer free curriculum like http://www.lessonpathways.com/

or sites that plan out a curriculum for you using mostly free books from http://archive.org/ such as http://www.amblesideonline.org/curriculum.shtml or http://oldfashionededucation.com/

Also, if you blog, many homeschool publishing companies will give you curriculum to review (and one to give away too) if you following is large enough, I've gotten lots of curriculum this way. Also, follow your favorite publishers and homeschooling blogs, I've won a TON of curriculum from twitter and facebook parties.

And I second stick around, this board is an amazing source of support!

I don't think that was it at all. I think it's more rob's state of mind at the moment. I hope s/he comes back when they get back in town (said they were going out of town for a few days) they come back and see that there really is support here.
