So I am new to homeschooling....Sort of... My mother home schooled my younger siblings... I decided at the end of the school year that I was pulling my 15 year old son from public school as he was failing and falling through the cracks. I have found some great online math, science, social studies, Spanish programs (hippo campus, c12, live mocha) but I can not seem to find a good high school English online.... Any ideas. We will be repeating his 9th grade English.
Last year we used Time 4 Learning (on-line) as a language arts supplement. It can be used as a complete curriculum if you complete all aspects of the program. It contains inter-active lessons as well as language arts extensions which are non-interactive. They also have Time 4 Writing which is a separate writing program. We haven't used that one yet.
For someone this age, a course like this might be useful to make the transition. I've not seen this course, but it sure looks interesting. http://www.thegreatcourses.com/tgc/courses/course_detail.aspx?cid=1050 Have you tried diagramming sentences?
Not online but DS is using Lighting Literature this year: Hewitt Homeschooling It is new but I like it so far. There is also Apex, BYU and Paradigm. Good luck!
Here is a great online writing program: http://www.soverbose.blogspot.com/ They have programs for grades 3-6, 7-8 and 9-12. As for lit. I am not sure about any online programs but you could just pick up some Novel Units or Progeny Press guides and have him work through those. This way you could pick some books that he might have some interest in.
Not on-line, but Easy Grammar is a really nice, simple grammar curriculum that is reasonably priced and doesn't take a long time. But it is grammar ONLY...no literature and no writing.
Time4Writing has some great courses for high school english including a grammar and mechanics course that I felt helped my son really make strides in his compositions! I'm also checking out Brave Writer for this year. I just saw it yesterday on the LetsHomeschoolHighschool curriculum directory.
