Hi! I am homeschooling this year for my 3rd year! I have loved it so far and wouldn't trade it for anything, but today was our first day and I"m looking for ideas. I have a 7 yr old and 5yr old in school, but I also have twin boys that are 2 1/2 yrs old! I can't figure out how to school my older two boys while my twins are screaming for attention! I'm totally frustrated!!! any suggestions??
I have not had to do this but here are some ideas that I know folks have used. First is having a special box of toys or videos that just come out during school. Another is to rotate the kids so that one of the older kids plays with the younger ones while you do a subject with the other child. I know one family that does all their history, read alouds, readers... in the living room all together so the kids can be on the floor playing and listening at the same time, any tough subjects are done while the little ones nap.
I've done rotating toy boxes effectively since my boys were little and I was working full-time. Interruptions were expected though. What were their days like without school? How much time are you needing them to play alone each day? Some people have an older sibling play with the younger ones while you work with the other child. Some people school during nap time.
We live in the country so we are used to just staying home and playing all day. This wasn't a problem until this year. Last year we did school during nap time, but now they don't nap as long and I need about another hour and half to get everything accomplished. Thanks for your suggestions. I will be trying some new ideas this week and see if we can rearrange our schedule a bit!
You might also get your twins their own "school" books to use so that they feel like they are a part of the homeschooling. They can be their favorite picture books and coloring books. I liked to buy my kids educational toys too.
Welcome to the spot! Google 'Toddler Activity Bag Ideas' You'll come up with great stuff like this http://pinterest.com/jessicaqwhite/busy-activity-bag-ideas/ Most I've seen are rather inexpensive to do or free using household items in new ways. Like other posters said, use these ONLY during school time so they hold their interest longer.
