Anyone else in the path? Right now we are in the direct path for landfall. We live 2 miles inland and 2 blocks from the bayou. It's our first ever hurricane, so we are a little nervous! Our landlord assured us that this house did not flood in Katrina. We've gathered supplies and gassed up the cars--just waiting now.
Anyone else in the path? Right now we are in the direct path for landfall. We are not yet but the models sure are inching our way. I'm from the coast so this is not our first go round. Please leave when they say and if they don't tell you to leave and you feel unsafe, leave anyway. Always better to be safe than sorry. Will be praying for you.
I'm a little weirded out by the fact that the entire state of Arkansas is going to be hit... and a good chuck of Missouri!
I will. My sister lives 5.5 hours north, and is already prepared for us. She's been telling us to come on all day, but I can't justify the drive just yet. The projected path has shifted slightly west now, but we are still very much in the storm cone. Looks like our first week of school my be interesting!!
I'm not too concerned with it hitting us in North Arkansas.. I have been in hurricanes since I was a child and they don't scare me... I just make sure to have batteries for the flashlights and things like that... When we get it.. it will be just like another storm ... I have noticed that we loose power very time there is a storm over here... even a little rain storm... Don't worry just watch and be ready just in case.
The width of the storm is huge! Stay safe, Amie! Walmart here was INSANE this afternoon, so get supplies early.
I'm going to go tomorrow during the day. I'm hoping that since we aren't 'scheduled' to be hit until Friday, coupled with most people being at work, Walmart won't be super busy. Honestly, until tonight, I hadn't even considered that we might get serious storms because of the hurricane. Flooding is going to be the biggest issue for us. We're in deep drought conditions which will only exacerbate the problem. It'll be nothing like those who are along the coast, of course. Flooding and power outages are really not a big deal in the grand scheme of possibilities.
The predicted path has shifted more towards New Orleans now, with MS still being in the spaghetti model as a possibility. The whole state of AR is now included, so expect at least some heavy rains. Flooding is mostly what I'm worried about, too. Our landlord is boarding up the windows on Tuesday as a precaution against winds. For all of you... Gas prices are already rising here. It might be wise to fill up before the storm hits and prices go crazy!
Six.. if they tell you to leave... take anything of value and you memories you don't want messed up. If it hits New Orleans, you guys can get the bad winds, rain and flooding... All my family in South La... have been preparing and saying that their gas stations are all out of gas.. they are preparing which is good.... I am father north than Amie, so she will get more than we will... its always good to be prepared even if in the end it was not needed... Ya'll stay safe!
The next town over is evacuating just along the beach as of now. Schools are closing tomorrow and Wednesday. We filled up both cars yesterday and lines were very long! I just heard to expect a surge in gas prices becuase the oil rigs have evacuated and stopped production.
The gas prices will go up because it's a case of supply/demand. The gulf rigs shutting down for a few days really doesn't have that much to do with it... It's 7:20 am here and we've got nothing. No rain, pleasant breezes. So far. Guess I'll be getting ready to go to school!
I am wondering how you La people doing this morning... I have tons of family including my only grandmother ... they are in Thibodeaux and HOmua area... they are doing ok as of now... Praying that this thing starts moving faster... flooding is going to be a major pain if it keeps this speed.
I rode out Hurricane Ike a few years ago when I lived in Texas (and Hurricane Rita the year before that!), so I feel for everyone in the path. Even after it was all over, it wasn't really over -- we were without power for 10 days and clean up in our own yard took several days as well. So, definitely thinking of all of you and your families! Isaac is working on ruining my weekend plans as Southern Illinois looks to get hit with tons of rain (which we need, but crummy timing for me! ha). I'll just be thankful for the rain, I guess.
While I understand the supply and demand concept, I still think it's disgraceful to profit off of a disaster as they're doing right now.
Praying for everyone in the affected areas..... Praying that the levees will hold up to this and that they don't have a repeat of what happened 7 years ago.
The kids and I are at my sister's 6 hours north. Dh stayed at our house (2 miles inland) with a friend who lives just off the beach. He says there is lots of wind and rain, but so far he still has power. There has been some flooding of the streets around our home.
Please remember that gas stations don't regulate prices. We are not "profiting" of the disaster. Oil refineries, knowing a shortage will happen within days, are already raising prices. I signed for a fuel delivery last night that had us taking a hit (our prices last night vs. the price we paid for that delivery = loss, not profit). Add to that the complicated issue of investors buying futures and the gas prices are not as simple as gas stations taking advantage of folks.
