First 2 hours - Bible, Foreign Language and a little Language Arts
Second 2 hours - Language Arts or Math
    1 hour PE
Third 2 hours - Rotating subjects like History or Science

Well, today, everything has been this or that, we initially started with Bible during breakfast, then Math, finished that up, and planned to move onto LA, but only got one part done. My 18 month old has been everything BUT smiles and sunshine this morning. Just grumpy, screaming, little guy. I ended up having my 1st grader work on his states, which consists of connect the dots, and coloring while listening to Handel. I'll try to finish up the rest after lunch. Not off to the greatest start today!

Bible then Math- English , these are more brain taking things and ds works best first thing in Am so we start with them , then we go on to Science, Spanish, History

This is what we do, too. Bible reading and discussion, copywork, memory work, etc... usually takes us about 1-1.5 hours. Bible is the basis of our curriculum, and it encompasses our history, grammar, handwriting, spelling, reading, geography, and once in a while math.

After Bible, the kids do their individual work. They have a checklist of what they need to do, and they choose the order. My daughter does math, French review, and literature daily. My son does math and reading daily.

We outsource for science, art history, studio art, music theory and appreciation, and French.

We don't have a set order but I do prefer to do Bible, Math & English first. They just seem more focused earlier. Twin boys have a tendency to get sidetracked.:)

Thanks. This has lots of great ideas for me as I get started on my home school adventure with my 2nd grader. She is VERY self motivated and so I think what I am going to try to start with is giving her a notebook that has everything that needs done for the week in it on Sunday and then on Monday after breakfast let her get started. I know it will have a lot of help from me as I help her understand new ideas and concepts and help her reading and such but then I will also have a list for myself as to what needs done for the week and check it off as it gets done. We will likely start out though with each thing broken down into days so she knows what she has to accomplish for the day and week but she is welcome to do more in an area than what is required for the day. We have some extra notebooks and folders around and that's what we will try first because it sounds like something that will work well for us both

We have started something new this year. But keep in mind, my kids are older. I doubt it would work with younger ones!

We are starting at 8:00 AM. I've told the kids that I wouldn't be getting them up. They had to get themselves up, and I expected them dressed and ready to go by 8:00. If they wanted computer time to check emails, etc., it needed to be done before 8. If they want breakdfast, it needed to be eaten before 8. Beds need to be made. Faythe told me last night that she wanted to take a shower today, and didn't want to get dressed until after she did. My response was, "Fine! Be sure you get up early enough to get it done before 8:00...." And it's working very well.

Jackie after today ( its our official first day so we are lax and doing the intro to all the work and how we will do things and then movie or something fun) we are starting the same way this year. The 8 am time slot is perfect and with PE being out of the home this year at various times w have to change up the way we did have it planned. I signed us up for PE thinking it was always at 130, perfect! but no its at 10 some days and that is not so perfect but its off campus too so at 10 off campus means we get back after lunch.
I am now starting at 8 with Math, english and then pe, then back for Science on the weeks that we have early PE , ( its twice weekly wiht occasional 3 days and 1 da when holidays or other events are in the way) Then after lunch is science, History and that includes the other half of english lit. and Spanish. I think it will work this way ... but the 8 am instead of 830 will be different for ds I am sure at his now very teen sleeping status.

We're bike riding on Friday mornings until the weather gets too cold. Two weeks in a row we rode about 7 miles. I don't know if it's better for the kids or for me! My goal is to drop 35 lbs.

I am finding that working on the subjects we will have to do together-read alouds, history and science works best for us. That way, I can move on with my stuff-dishes, laundry, workout etc. without having to wait on my son. He works pretty independently once he gets going. I just don't want to have to wait around for him all day. We'll see how this works out once the school work amps up more.

Most of the time we start with Literature and Grammar, then math, science, bible, and history. My dd reads her novel just before bedtime. We have been known to switch things around here and there depending on our day.

This. I have all of the assignments for the day written out, and he is free to choose which order he would like to do them in.

We almost always do math first, then grammar, spelling, a quick break, writing, and then science or history. I leave the "big things" like hands on, or art projects, etc for the weekend in one big plop, and music we do after dinner, because it is relaxing and the favored subject for both of us.

If I think the math is going to tough, I do grammar first. Grammar is done painlessly with rarely a mistake. It gives him a boost of "goodness" before facing something tough.

all p;lans go out the widow when typing becomes a chore for me. So-- now I am writing a list and he is checking it off for the time being. by the time Monday next week comes I am hoping to be typing again well enough to give him his full set lesson plan that we set up his student planner to hold each day, week , month of. but for now the hand scratched most inportant things teac her planner is holding my to do for his lessons, and so we look over the lessons and I tell him what to do each day.

I still am strugglng with keeping him off his computer though if I run dd to college so I try to set up lessons to work through that ten min trip and back so he can work his way through. Today gets side stepped for PE and Costco shopping. we will do lunch there and maybe bring book for car schooling from PE to Costco. I need his help to carry things or I would leave him at PE and go shopping. Cant wait to heal up1 Look at all I typed today1 I am gettng better for sure!
