We did fine here. I was nervous since dh is out of town but we did not even lose power although folks closer to the lake had some damage and there are still some roads closed by the lake. Hope everyone else came through ok.
We're OK!!!! YAY!!!! We ended up being in the very tip of the edge of the storm so did not get it too bad. Our power went out around 1a.m.....and came on surprisingly at about 12:00noon....so....I was expecting it to be out for days, but it wasn't! I guess living on a main road has it's advantages. Our neighbors across the street, however, were not so lucky. A downed tree pull down the power wire for their house and about 10 others (goes through their yard to a cul de sac behind them). Fire & Police came out shortly after it happened because it caused a small fire on the pole....Hubby checked in on them this afternoon, and they seem to be okay. They have a generator....but told them if they needed anything to come across the street....even if they want showers, or whatever. Not sure they'll take us up on it, but maybe. Hubby also bought 2 40 lb bags of ice this a.m. because our fridge and freezer were full and we were afraid we'd lose it all....offered it to them if they need it. It's cold enough outside that it will stay frozen. Thankfully, the rain had stopped when our power went out, so the sump had already stopped pumping....residual water didn't back up! YAY!!! We had JUST finished a portion of the basement that would have been devastating to lose. Like LITERALLY just finished it last week!!!! But, it fared well. Heat has warmed up the house again, doing much better now!!! Praying for all of those still affected!
We are in NC and only had wind. Our daughter is in Fredonia, NY and we didn't hear from her until a few minutes ago. She is fine. Just a lot of rain she said.
Wow! Fredonia! My mom's side of the family is from Fredonia (they've all passed on now). My mom and I went out there twice when the last uncle was elderly and in a care home. My ears just perked up because you never hear about Fredonia (and Dunkirk). Glad your dd is OK.
Praying for all those affected by that horrible storm!! Hope all is well with everyone on the East Side of the US. Sometimes it pays to be in the middle of the country! (even though we do have tornadoes sometimes)
Hi all -- I'm in NJ but where I'm at it was mostly a wind event. Still the worst storm I have ever been through. We all slept downstairs huddled in the living room. The power went out around 8:30 that Monday night. Then the wind picked up and we heard stuff hitting the house. Absolutely insane night -- I hope to never have to go through it again. So much damage around us it's hard to fathom. But thankfully none of our family or friends sustained the level that we have seen -- trees on houses and cars mostly. One of my friend's neighbors had trees take out their shed, pool, and their three cars! Ouch! Our power was out for 8 days and it got real cold. So thankful it's back but we know so many still out at day 10. Some have been told not to expect it back till closer to Thanksgiving. There is just so much damage from downed trees and wires pulled out of homes. Schools north of us have been cancelled for two weeks straight. The ones near us started back mid way through this week on a delayed schedule and they are meeting in different buildings as power outages still wreak havoc with districts. Gas lines were crazy. My husband ended up driving to PA to get gas at one point as we needed it for the generator. Right now we have an odd / even rationing thing going on so we can only get gas on odd days as our license plates end in odd numbers but I think that will be lifted very soon. Still praying for our friends without power as there are so many. And I can't even begin to fathom the devastation along the coast. Oh, and one family who lives in the next town over suffered the worst loss possible. A tree fell on the parents' truck while they were driving with two of their children asleep in the back seat. The parents were killed and the boys sustained minor injuries only. The 19 year old daughter has now left college and gone home to raise her siblings. Hard to fathom how life changing one storm can be.
