Today is day 32 of the 'sick'. He's been on Metronidizole (the anti-parasite meds) for 3 days now, but hasn't kept down a single pill. The come back up in perfect form, so they aren't absorbing even a tiny bit into his system. So the "take this and see if it fixes things" method isn't working. I've got a call into the doctor. He's been out of the office but his nurse said he'd be back today and she'd discuss options with him.
Wow! praying that an answer can be found... How is his weight, I would think that he is not getting any nutrients he needs and may be losing weight rapidly.
I'm so sorry to hear that...... can he drink any liquids? ........ we used to sqush medicine up for Donald and put it in sweetened coffee milk (coveres up the bitter medicine taste).........
Is there a way for the doctor to administer the meds, maybe through an IV. Not a fun option, but maybe the best way to get it into his system.
I talked to the nurse on Tuesday and she said the Dr. was out of the office. She said she'd talk to him yesterday and get back to me. I still haven't heard back. I know the office is closed Fridays, so I'm going to call again in an hour.
Wow. I am so sorry you are going through this. I have to say that my daughter had a virus that sounds very similar to what you are going through. She would scream saying her stomach hurt and that she felt like she would throw up. (She is very dramatic.) Sometimes she would and sometimes she wouldn't. No rhyme or reason. It mostly happened after she ate but her stomach felt bad pretty much all the time. It got to the point where she didn't want to eat at all. No joke this lasted probably about two months. I was beside myself with worry. We spent day after day in the doctor's office and running tests. Eventually they said they had no explanation and it must be psychological. Well don't you know my dh and I got it later that year. It was AWFUL! And it lasted FOREVER! I felt so bad knowing how my sweet four year old must have felt. One day you just wake up and it's gone. Oh, and that was her only symptom. No fever, runny nose, nothing.
gosh, I hope they can get this taken care of TODAY!!! How horrible for your son and you must be worrying something awful! Praying for you all..
The doctor never did call back. And the office is closed Fridays, so Monday is the next chance I have to talk to him. arg
Not returning a patient's call in 2 days is completely unacceptable. Is there an on-call emergency number?
Unacceptable or not, it's the way they work. My mom had that trouble all the time. She was fighting cancer, and they were always putting her off. And come Monday, they'll forget you had even called.
I know you are not comfortable with hospitals and the bills that come along with it, but it is really sounding like he might be to the point of needing hydration at the very least. Praying for you to know what to do in the days ahead.
Yes, I've already talked to DH about taking him tomorrow. I don't mind the ER bills so much because a)they are negotiable and b)they can be paid off in increments. It's the up-front costs that concern me more than anything. [The reason I was hesitant to take him the first time was because I just knew they would blow me off, which they did, and he was not dehydrated. Today he's looking a bit peeked.] Also, I talked to Jaynessa Wednesday (on the phone! squeeee) and she suggested an oil blend that might help. The best news is that it is delivered dermally. It's listed as a treatment for both digestive issues and parasites, so maybe it will help either way. It should arrive today.
