Been gone for a little while. Had a small house fire on October 30. Ceiling light in the bathroom shorted out. Most flame damage confined to the bathroom and up in the attic, but the smoke filled the house and that alone would make it impossible to stay in the house. But we had an electrician isolate the kitchen and utility rooms so that the refrigerator and freezer could continue to work. All other electricity is shut off. We stayed at the parsonage with the preacher and his wife for about a week and a half, but now we've moved into a friend's mother-in-law apartment until we can get the house fixed. It would be easy to focus on what we don't have where we are, like a stove (fridge and microwave only), DirecTV, my computer/internet (I'm at the library right now), etc., but we're choosing to be glad for what we do have: relative health, each other, food, a place to sleep, bathe and do laundry, and lots of friends and church family eager to help. We didn't stop school or church or DGS's Cub Scouts, trying to stay as normal as possible. Didn't really lose that much important stuff, although my OCD did NOT like having all those people pawing through my stuff. [Have you ever had a complete meltdown while standing in a dumpster?] We threw out some furniture that would be impossible to clean, most of which needed replacing anyway. Had to pull out the carpet in the hallway and in DGS's bedroom, and need to pull it out of the other two bedrooms as well, but I just can't handle it right now. I have no idea how long it will be before we can get back in the house. I've really missed everybody here on the Spot, and I'm going to try to get back to the library about once a week if I can and check in.
Oh my. I am so thankful that no one was hurt. I pray that they get all the work done quickly and you can be back home soon.
Glad you didn't loose everyting...... You probably wanted to re-modle the bathroom anyway...... most people do..... (just on different terms).......
Hi again! We're at DD's for Thanksgiving yesterday, and stayed over to babysit while they're both at work today. Work at the house is nil. DH talked to a carpenter, and the guy came and looked, said he could do it, but he'd have to come back to get a better look so he could estimate... and we haven't heard from him again. DS and his bil came and helped clear out some junk that needed cleared, and will be back tomorrow to help some more and pull carpet out of the bedroom across the hall from the burned bathroom, remove the burned bathroom door, stuff like that. Every now and then DGS says wistfully, "I miss our house." And all I can say is, "I do too."
Oh Lindina, we so miss you! Thoughts and prayers have been for you and your family! Come back to us soon!
