I decided to go with Sonlight last summer because my DD likes to read. Well it's too much reading. She don't like Abeka so after we finish Sonlight she wants to try something else. She really likes the upper Apologia Science and ask if there is something similar for History. She did the first two Story of the World books and I was going to do books 3 and 4 but went with Sonlight, mostly because it came with books. Now looking back I should have kept SOTW 3/4 and just bought the books at Amazon. Our library isn't the best and when I used MFW I couldn't get most of the books they suggested. Back in the states I could have used the library for MFW but not here. Just looking to see what options for history we have. I dont know of any history that is like the upper Apologia. I know I should have just stuck to one thing and made it thru but I guess it's me who gets bored quick with the same routine not the kids. The younger two like what they are using and Katie dont hate what she has but she sure isn't fond of it. She will finish the program but would like something different for fall. My Sonlight purchase wasn't a total fail, she does like Teaching Textbooks and the Apologia General Science.

Why don't you look into Notgrass? We did the high school history. It has lots of reading, too...text, literature selections, and "primary source" documents. But I would say it's too much for a 12yo...even an advanced one. But I'm told they've got a new Notgrass for younger students. I really don't know much about it, but it might be worth checking into....

Which core are you using? What grade is she in?

If you've already used SOTW 1 and 2 and liked them, why don't you use 3 and 4, with some of the literature from Sonlight Core H? Or are you looking for high school level?

Also look into Mystery of History. We're using that as well as Apologia. I also like Notgrass, but mostly for American rather than World History.

Took the words right out of my mouth! (or would that be "out of my fingers?)

Anyway, that's very similar to what I was going to say.

I took away the Read out loud of Sonlight and ordered the SOTW 3 audio (I just love audio books and SOTW). I think I will just finish Sonlight and go back to SOTW4 like my org. plan was before purchasing Sonlight. I do have a bad case of the grass is greener on the other side. Even with the 5 year gap is it nice to have them all together and cover the basics of history/science and seperate them.
I did look at Notgrass and liked the look of some, maybe 9th grade if we go ahead and continue after 8th grade.

I have the opposite problem. My kids love Sonlight and one child has already finished all the readers for the year in his core and the other child is 5 weeks ahead in the literature books in another core. I'm not sure what books to add to keep them going all year!
