OK - I've read and digested the feedback you kindly gave about relevant topics for interactive online courses. Of the various topics suggested, let me list ones that I feel comfortable having ready by the end of the year. They'll be aimed at 9th/10th grade - ages 14-16. So I can test one out prior to making it more generally available, would you be interested and willing in having your child take any of the following courses? I'd need at least 8 students to take part for a course to be worthwhile. If so, please nominate one or more courses from the list shown in the poll.
I'd be interested for my 15 yo. dd. Want me to rank my preferences? 4. Earth science (must purchase book from Apologia) (this would be last mainly because I've already spent my budget for schoolbooks for the year) 1. Being a citizen of the world (no book required) (We're studying world history this year, so it seems applicable) 3. Business and personal ethics (no book required) (VERY important!) 2. Becoming a skilled communicator (no book required)(always a good skill) Dicovering your family history (no book required) (we have a genealogy of dh's family and half of mine)
Steve, have you thought about posting this on a more active board? Such as http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/forum/4-parents-forum-general-board/ I bet you would be overwhelmed with the response.
Honestly, I don't belong to that many online communities, because trust is important. I wouldn't want to ask questions on other forums in case I come across as a spammer or troll (oops - isn't that my middle name? ) I trust everyone's opinion here.
that site is one of the best. I suspect if you framed it, introduced yourself and just participated a bit, you'd build some rapport. It is a fun site. I'd recommend the General Board and the Chat board.
I would possibly be interested in the Business / Ethics course... However, I guess we would be a year-ish too old for your requirements. J is 17.
I spoke with DS. He said he would like to possibly participate in the Business Ethics course. I personally wish he would have said Family History (I like geneology!) or the Citizen of the World. He is 13 and will be in 8th grade - a bit younger but it will be a good intro to high school expectations. Debbie
Well, it's clear, isn't it: business and personal ethics. Darn it! I've largely put together courses for earth science, communications, and being a citizen of the world. I shall have to see how quickly I can put together a course on ethics. If it's feasible to get one ready by year's end, I'll do so. If not, maybe I'll finish up and run the course on communication skills.
