My dd (new 6) and I are going to be using the American Girl books for a portion of our History/Social Studies for the next few months. I'd love to do some fun, simple projects that relate to each story. Anyone have suggestions or know of a site that lists book and corresponding crafts? Thank you! I'll also take any suggestions for books that would be on a similar reading/interest level that we could use instead of or in addition to AG. I'm not sure I'm totally in love with them...though they do appeal to me in many ways. Thank you again! Lol!
Check your library system. Most of the girls have a corresponding craft book where you can get a bunch of ideas.
Are you just doing the "Meet" books which are the first in each series? Or are you concentrating on a specific girl? There used to be a project book called "Meet The American Girls" it was a downloadable ebook file that had all sorts of stuff that went along with the 1st book in each series....for 8 of the girls, I think. We had one, but I THINK I sold it. I'm not sure it's available anymore....it does look like Currclick.com has something new....maybe?
well the obvious is to do the paperdolls for each one.... if you are near one you cold go for a feild trip to the stores... watch videos and what ever time period it is in do either food they ate, or toys they played with? start a scrap book of pictures of the girls and who they are? sort of like a year book?
I remember reading the "American Girl" books when I was tiny, and loving them! It's amazing what comes into style if you wait long enough! I wonder when tye-dye will come back into fashion? LOL I think Paper Dolls are a good thing. Here is what I do for some extra fun play if your creative. I would draw (or print and cut out) the girl you are focusing on, laminate her (with a laminator or contact paper) and glue a magnet piece on her back and play with her on the fridge. Cut out a few furniture pieces and such for her and do like a...storyboard thing. Acting out the story for comprehension purposes.
