Hi. I'm here to gain more knowledge, to observe and solicit recommendations and feedback. I have two kids. I am a native Californian who recently moved to Colorado. I am dissatisfied with the middle school my 2E son is attending. I'm satisfied with the elementary school that my 10YO attends, but he will be in middle school next year, and I'm not comfortable with him going to this middle school. The district that we are in offers a one-size-fits-all curricula and isn't flexible with children of varying abilities. I was far from impressed with the teachers here, too. I was relatively happy with California's public schools, but the teachers plan their curricula within state and district frameworks. This district's curricula-in-a-box doesn't really allow for much deviation or teacher contribution, and the teachers aren't all that impressive either. Right now, I'm focusing on the purchase of curriculum for my 12YO son. He's twice exceptional (gifted Aspergers child with moderate to severe anxiety). We are a secular family, and that presents a few challenges regarding curricula. I'm not opposed to mildly religious content or references (such as the content in Horizons math) but would like material that isn't taught from a Christian worldview. I am considering sending my son to a public high school as our neighborhood high school has an IB program. I would revisit homeschooling him through high school if he desires it. That pretty much sums us up. I will post my curricula questions in that area so I don't bog this thread down with them. I want to thank this site's administrators and participants. There is a tremendous amount of information here.
Welcome Elizabeth! I'm glad you found us; hopefully we can (collectively) help with your questions and concerns. This is a fantastic place.
