Ever get the feeling that your sole function is to follow your family members around and clean up after them? I need a maid and a vacation please.

Sometimes I find that I will leave something undone that I know I need to do and that I am the only person that will ever do it. Weeks will go by with me looking at it every day and annoyed that it needs to be done. It is as if I am waiting for it to just be done even though I know that the only way it will get done is by me. Let me think of an example...Ok, the rim of my washing machine is dirty. Yes, I know I should just take the minute to do it, but instead I stare at it each time I wash laundry and mention how I need to clean it. In a way I sort of try to will it away but know that in the end I will take the time to clean it. Just not today. Ok, so not really your point, but that is what came to mind.;)

Totally. Which is why we will NOT bring another pet into this house since our dog died, (which I swear is shrinking every day) and why Im a big fan of consigning the kids' stuff! More stuff in the house= more stuff to clean up. No thanks. I just need the grandma's to get on the same page with me!

ABSOLUTELY! Not every day but some days yes! I swear some days I could spend my entire day doing nothing but walking through the house picking things up. I'm totally outnumbered.:D Hope today is a better day for you.

Lately I find myself following my children around and telling them to clean up after themselves. I love my husband dearly but he was not taught this as a child and I want my future daughters in law to have a little bit less frustration. ;)

I do feel your pain, though. I can get a room clean and feel so good about the job I just did only to walk into another that has been visited by my two little tornadoes and it can be quite disheartening some days.

    You mean it's not?!?!?!

Yeah, I feel that way some days. There is a scene on That 70's show, I forget the story line, but I remember the quote Kitty (The mom) said.

    ...yeah. that. Somedays

"If insanity is defined by doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results then why do I clean the house?!" LOL

I know what you mean. It's so tough to keep up with a bunch of kids (and husbands sometimes too, bless their hearts).

Ah yes, husbands. My husband tries, or he thinks he does, but he is as big of a mess as everyone else! lol He just has man vision- he doesn't see the mess until it is in his way and then he wonders why nobody cleaned it up! lol

Before we moved we had a good chore system set up and I have yet to revamp that for this house. I need to, like now.

I am so glad that I'm not alone! My family is going to find out how much I do in a few months though. I'm going to be away for two weeks helping my brother and sister-in-law with their baby and they will be on their own! Pray for my husband he's going to need it! I was talking to him and giving him suggestions on how he can feed the kids (he only cooks frozen pizza) and he suggested we tell the church that I'll be away and see if anyone will make meals for my family. Apparently my absence is cause for community support! lol He makes me laugh. Fortunately my 12 year old is a decent cook and I can premake a variety and store in the freezer.

LOL Minnie Mouse! My husband tries hard too. LOL. If they kids so much as leave a crumb behind he freaks out! LOL I say, "Really, it's no reason to get crazy and get your knickers in a twist over a little mess." I usually let everything go until about an hour before his return home from work, and then tell the kids, "Alright, you made the mess, time to clean it!" They might grumble, but it gets done. Just a couple weeks ago, though, the house was in chaos (as usual). The kids' toybox had gotten dumped, toys were everywhere, jammies were around the washing machine (heaven forbid they make it all the way IN), and my dirty baking supplies were on the counter and in the sink. Messy. Ick! LOL Well, on this particular day, the prison decided that they had too many officers on the yard and let the senior CO go home...which is my husband. So, he comes home at 1 and the house was a disaster!! LOL He didn't call or anything! He waltzes in, I hear his breath catch, and I'm pretty sure he cried a little!! LOL I had to talk him away from the edge of insanity, and the whole place was spotless in 30 minutes while DH rocked in the corner. :p Goof! I was like, "We have 3 kids. You and I want more. You NEED to work on your mess threshold." LOL

OH Meg! your hubby reminds me of that TV show MONK.... :D when my girls were young I waited until they were in bed to clean... one night I was tired and did nothing.. my hubby came in at one in the morning and asked why the house was so horrible... I just told him that we had a party and we decided he could clean up after us.. he was not impressed

    That is priceless!

I h ave a system set up, but my boys are such mess makers! And I have one who HATES TO CLEAN! My oldest is a great helper, I ask him one time, he does it, does it to the best of his ability (usually) and we're done in no time. My youngest...ask him to clean and it's fit pitching time "WHY do I ALWAYS have to CLEAN!?!?!?!?!" LOL It's a heart issue and we're working on it. He's made a lot of progress in the last couple of weeks.

I have a checklist-I worked on it and tweaked it for months and finally got it to fit the current season of our life....for ever how long THAT lasts!

If I live by it, my house stays clean most of the time and the kids help much better and even if it does get 'messy' I can usually have it company ready in 15 minutes.

The problem however is being part of the sandwich generation with such young children. My mom didn't have me until later in life, so my kids are still so young for me to be caring for elderly parents....it's rough, she throws a monkey wrench in my plans at least twice a week LOL but I work around it...even if it means a messy house....

Oh man, I would love a maid!!!
I do a full cleaning on the weekend, and the rest of the week just kitchen and bathrooms.
The children are in charge of their rooms, and I enlist them as much as possible, but I am still forever on top of them, and changing rules etc.

My newest and favourite rule so far: Any toys lying around will be confiscated, and I will deal with them as I see fit. I could donate them, or throw them away, or put them away for 6 months.
    Love it! It's called Sweet Revenge...muahahahaha :)
