I'm DONE! I quit! Our public school has more issues than I can count. And my 13 yr old is currently on home-instruction (per neurologist request, the school gave him a tutor. He only does math and LA...nothing else! The WHOLE YEAR! He has epilepsy, he's not an idiot! His state tests are always above average! To top it off, most of his friends are already smoking and drinking. Then there's my 11 yr old dd. Supposedly she's in the gifted program, but the assignments are INSANELY BORING! It's all worksheets and repetition! Then there's my 8 yr old ds, don't even get me started! He finally got a BFF and the kid showed up saying every swear word in the book! Then when his mom came to get him, she threw her cigarette on my porch and told her son to get his F**** A*** over there!!! Are u serious???? Socialization can go fly a kite! My kids will learn how to be adults by being with ADULTS, not a group of cookie cutter robots programmed to follow the crowd!
UGH! Sorry, just had to vent. I had homeschooled my 13 yr old for the last quarter last year. I seriously regret sending him back this year. Actually, they're all staying home next year...so mind if I start posting? Usually I'm a lurker. :D

Been there and done that! Seriously - welcome - LOL..... as a mom with teens it gets just plain ridiculous - and I think the parents are worse!! Heck you should hear some of the things my little one comes home with from Kinder!!

Yes, the parents are more shocking than the kids. I'm amazed at the stuff they'll say and do and not even try to hide it! I just wasn't brought up that way and I'll never understand it.

    Thanks for the welcome :D

Welcome to the dark side ;)

Really though, I totally understand everything you are talking about! I about died when my oldest was in PS in K, now that he is back in PS and around teenagers, nothing surprises me any more.

Thanks everyone. It's been a bad year. I've literally watched my bright, articulate, funny and amazing daughter just shrivel in the face of middle school drama. She LOVED learning! Now it's just a series of endless worksheets. And they are ridiculously BORING worksheets! I swear, she brought home the same dang sheet everyday for a week (In early March), but it was just re-arranged! And the book reports...why do the teachers ALWAYS pick the book?

Come out of lurking and socialize with us unsocialized homeschooling parents! :) And vent away!

Welcome! Glad you're here! Think I'm gonna show this to my mom and sister when they endlessly harp on the 'disservice' I'm doing to my child by not 'socializing' him in school!

Thank you everyone. I'm slowly getting things ready for next year. SLOWLY...LOL I realized that I'm highly irritated by some of the useless stuff that my kids have been taught and the important stuff they have NOT been taught.

My oldest DD20, graduated with a 4.0 and got a full scholarship to BW. HOWEVER...in just 2 years time she is INSANELY in debt. Mainly due to lack of knowledge of credit card 'catches' and banking. So anyway, I've decided that all of the children will be studying Finance, not 'basic math'. They will learn how to budget, read and interpret a mortgage document, learn all the fine print, understand the 'catch' of all things banking and checking. Understanding a college loan and how to not get caught in a 'pay it back for the rest of your life' trap. As well as car insurance, health insurance etc...And I think I'll call this class "The Public School Shortcomings Class!" ;) (Insert Sarcasm Here-----> LOL)

I'm thankful Vicki (my daughter) has never been to public school. She would lose it in those conditions. I feel for you and your children.

So sorry you are having hard times honey bunny :(

It's hard to deal with public schools these days that only seem interested in the children that fit in their "peg board" of "square pegs" ... those perfect kids that seems to just sit and be still and not "bother" the teacher....

My Aunt is a teacher and one of my children fits that mold. I have one child tho that is a little octagon peg in a square peg "world" ....

Let me reassure you that some of God's most spectacular creations are the ones that don't fit the mold. That refreshing sun set among all the blue skies ;) I'm glad that you decided to do what is right hon ...

Being a mother is hard but growing up is even harder I think ... I think you are making the right decision that will make growing up not so hard.
