I'm a reader, always have been, but it's mostly just been reading for pleasure. But as my kids have grown and learned new things, I find myself reading about real things, like history and autobiographies, and cultural studies. That's given me the courage to believe I can learn more, so I got a book the other day called The Idiots Guide to Algebra, since math is my weakest subject. I'd also like to learn more about certain science subjects. I'm rediscovering my own joy in learnign.

    I self-educate ALL THE TIME.

I've took some free online courses. I'm waiting to have money for the book then I'm taking a free online course on photography. I signed up for one on the constitution, but didn't have time for it.... I often watch documentaries at night after the kids go to bed to learn history. I'm currently reading Up From Slavery

Of course I also learn along with the kids, despite how young they are, we learn so much more in depth and I remember so little from my PS education that even doing 1st grade work I learn things.

We've started some bird watching and nest watching and trying to identity animals and birds by sounds, etc.

I taught myself how to edit photos and do graphic design and html and how to build a website.

I took a free online course on business marketing when I ran my own business. Lots of universities offer some of their courses free online. I started one from MIT that I thought sounded interesting but the professor was soooo dry I couldn't take it! LOL

Years ago I read somewhere that to keep the mind sharp and help avoid dementia it's good to keep your brain working by testing it and learning new things. So I guess kinda subconsciously I've always had a goal of "currently learning at least one new thing."

Funny you should mention this. I was at the thrift store today and bought a college textbook on psychology with a workbook. I've always been interested it this so I'm excited to delve into it this summer when I have time.

I don't think it's crazy to do what you are going to do.

I am currently working my way through www.OldFashionedEducation.com 9th grade curriculum as I plan on going through high school again.:)

I do this all the time! My husband is going back to college this fall and I have been helping him refresh his math skills. In the process I have been getting the refresher too. I love to learn new things.
