Emily is going to Florida with my older daughter and her husband this summer and is earning her own spending money for the trip. She got very lucky this week and was asked to dog sit for my sister and her husband while they went to the beach for a week. The resort charges $50 a night extra if you bring your dog, the vet charges $30 a night to board the dog, so they are paying Emily $100 to keep the dog from this past Sunday until Friday evening. He is staying at our house and they sent all his food. He is bigger than our dogs but he is gentle and no problem at all. I was wondering if you had other ideas for a 14 year old girl to do to earn spending money. She is pretty shy so she needs a push to try anything new. Thanks.

is she crafty? now we have an outlet for our kids to sell things - so they do.

Alexis (13) makes wool dryer balls & fudge
Karina (17) does fried dough or bread & works at the Tae Kwon Do place
Jake (16) makes a bottled drink to sell & works at the Tae Kwon Do place

because of all this - my kids want a cell phone? they pay.... they want to pay for jeans with holes in them? they pay..... they also did all their own Christmas shopping this past year.

But - this is only because they have the outlet to sell it (we charge them for that outlet as well).... so if she's crafty - and esty site?? baking cookies to sell? stuff like that?

    Tutoring?

My kids make money working for me. I do a variety of sales events... some of which allow kids ... so one or both will come with me for some or all of the event, helping set up, helping tear down, etc. They're young, and they don't do a whole lot, so they're getting $1/hr. When they're older, they'll be doing sales, making change, etc., so they'll be paid by commission.

Rachael fell into babysitting. We had neighbors move in with a dog. She would watch the dog, and then the lady became pregnant. I told Rachael that by the time Zoe was old enough to have someone stay with her, she (Rachael) would be old enough to do it, and they would trust her because she watched their pet. The same with another couple down the road!

Faythe babysits and watches pets, Phillip mows lawn for the neighbor. My bil also paied them $50 for doing some yard work at his rental property. Also, the youth group sells mulch to help raise money for camp; the kids get $1 toward camp for each bag they sell. Working together, my kids have sold and delivered 229 bags of mulch. That has literally cut the cost of camp in half for them!

My real estate agent friend hires her for a day every now and then to do some office work. Organizing, cleaning, filing, shredding pages, answering the phone, etc.

She made over 50 bucks last time for one days' work.

Also, my kids enter objects in the fair and make out great with their prize winnings.

Any other local homeschool mommas who could use day time babysitting? I know I have one girl that I can call and it's awesome. She's 14 and comes with me to dentist app'ts to watch kids... or while I have other app'ts. Awesome to have someone who can come occasionally during the day.

They wouldn't have to be homeschooling mommas. My girls have been known to watch preschoolers during the school day on occasion. My one neighbor is very nice asking about Faythe's availability during the school day. She knows her school work is important and doesn't want to interrupt it, though we're usually flexible enough that Faythe can work around it.
