The thread about getting dressed sparked another question for me-how often do your children shower/bathe?

When my kids went to PS, I wouldn't even think about letting them miss a day of showering, but now that we're there are days when they really don't do much to get dirty. So, my youngers shower about every other day, sometimes more often depending on where we have to go. Dd15 is at that stinky age, so I do make her shower every day.

When Em was younger, it was every other day. Now she showers daily, by choice.

Depends on the kid! Phillip would take a shower once a week if we let him! (Rachael says that's not true...it'd be more like once a month!) The other two are pretty much every other day, or occasionally they'll go two days. Faythe ALWAYS showers on Fridays during the spring/fall, because she has horseback riding lessons, and she comes home smelling like horse. Also if she's going somewhere, like youth group or baby sitting. Phillip, though, we need to remind on a regular basis. He was getting better, but I think he's slipping again.

Ds (8) usually showers daily. Dh is a little more picky with the shower before you leave the house rule. I sometimes allow for showering after we have gone somewhere or skipping a day if a shower was done at the end of the previous day. I sort of judge it by how his hair is looking when we are getting ready to leave the house. Ds would be happy skipping days. He hates to get in the shower, then it is a battle to get him to finish up and get out. He starts to play around and feel how nice the warm water is. You know how it goes, they have to make it difficult on both ends, getting in and out.

Uh, let me say that Phillip DOES shower more than once a week!!! But we do have to ask him constantly "When was the last time you took a shower?" Otherwise, he very conveniently "forget"! But I don't want you all to think we're haphazard about it and consider it OK for him to go once a week!

My older three shower every day. DD9 at least rinses every day, because she loves to shower at the pool after her swim practices. I don't allow her to take her suit off for modesty reasons, so it's mostly just a rinse. She does wash her hair to get the chlorine out. She actually takes a good shower at home at least every other day.

We used to do every other day because of issues with eczema but that seems to have cleared up and now they bath daily. Every now and then they skip a day but not often.

That's how you can tell when boys get a girlfriend, or a girl they're interested in...when they start showering regularly. And wanting the good-smelling soap.

DGS is already "into" the good-smelling body wash, BTW. He's 8. When we were at the apartment there was only a shower, so after we moved back into the house, he was very glad to have a tub to soak in. Normally, though, he'll protest getting cleaned up, but at his age, if he goes outside at all, like 5 minutes even, he comes back in smelling like wet-puppy-dog. If we don't leave the house at all that day, he can get by with a GI bath.

Lol, Lindina! That's the truth, though. When we were going to the co-op, he was always careful to get a shower the night before. And no, there wasn't any one particular girl, but there was a group (guys and girls) he hung around.

Oh, and he's mowing lawns some this summer. He knows he has to take a shower when he comes in from doing that, and he would also have to shower when he had soccer practice/game. Though he's quit soccer, so that's not an issue any more.

For the most part my girls shower every other day. The older two (12 and 11) need to. The baby (5) doesn't quite shower as often. Honestly- unless she is dirty I don't mess with her too much. She has curly, frizzy hair that is so hard to tame and looks nicest when left alone! She ends up showering about every third day or so.

Winter is every other day, summer is usually a daily unless they don't go outside, but if they go out, they have to bathe to get all the dirt off!

In the summer I also have to clean the bath tubs after each bath they take because they are soooooo covered in dirt you could easily grow poatatoes in the tub with what they leave behind when they get out! LOL

Mine don't usually do showers simply because we have carpet in the bathrooms and we have the handheld shower heads, so the carpet ends up soaked because little boys can't resist using them as a toy as they shower LOL

Lol, Josie, that's funny because summer tends to be a little more relaxed in our house, since the kids spend so much time in the pool!

My dd is really concious finally about hygeine so she showers every other day, unless we are outside getting sweaty, which she hates. Ds is a typical 10 yr old and resists bathing. I have to just tell him honestly "Look, kid, you're quite odiferous, no one wants to be around you right now". Then he will grudgingly agree that he needs to bathe more often. He just thinks its boring and it interferes with what he's doing. LOL.

Girls shower ever other or every 3rd day unless they've been swimming or extra sweaty then more often.

My son will 'conveniently forget' so I have to keep track of when he takes a one and remind him.

Mine are small still, 5, 4, and 1. They get a bath once a week. They really could use it more often, but it is very hard for me to bathe them. They have thick hair, so they can't wash it by themselves.
