Is the Basic WG enough for one year for a 6th grader? Or do I need to add in something else, like Daily Grams or GUM? We are going to be doing Jump In writing, A Reason for Spelling and a Reason for Handwriting (his hw is atrocious! LOL), so the other areas of LA are covered. I just want to make sure he gets enough grammar. From looking at the WG, it looks like it will be 2-3 days a week - is that right?
Yes, it works for a year. I have copies of the cards. I also have the Advanced Level Teacher's Manual, if you want to use it the follow year.
It will cover one year. At first it starts off easy, but it does get more complicated. When we did WG, we would sometimes take a couple days to go over one lesson. I also would copy some of the worksheets and give them to Em later down the road just to make sure she was retaining the simple information.
We used Winston for our 4th grader this year (we completed 17 out of 30), and I supplemented it with Comic Strip Grammar and Mad Libs and it worked out well for DS - he did so well with it (compared to our disastrous year in 3rd using a program that obviously was not the right fit for him). We also used both of the workbooks to give him extra practice - most days he completed 4-6 questions so it was not overwhelming, and he did this 4-5 days/week. I hope your WG experience is as successful as ours was
