DGS will do CLE Bible 3 and the little Abeka reader Growing up Where Jesus Lived. Bible 3 is only 5 units, so even with the reader, it will be less than a whole year. He will do the second half of Reading 2, and LA 2, then start Reading 3, but switch to R&S English 3 because much can be done orally and quicker than a whole year of CLE can be finished. Then we'll go back to CLE for 4th. He'll do CLE 3 math and history, and R&S 3 science. If (when) we finish the science early, we may just go on to 4. If we finish the social studies sooner, we'll probably just switch over to R&S 3 for the rest of the year. We'll continue with the CLE Music, books 3 and 4. I'm toying with the idea of starting him in Rosetta Stone for French, but I'm not sure. Girl going to 9th grade: We'll probably do the CLE Bible Elective I while waiting for her brother to finish Bible 5, then start on 6 together. They'll both do CLE Reading 6 together, and R&S English 6 and science 7. She'll finish the Saxon 76 then do CLE math 6. We'll continue music, same as DGS with all the big kids. Her brother, who will be going to 10th grade, will do Bible, reading, and science together with sister. He'll do CLE 5 math, and we'll likely do world geography of some sort that's not too terribly difficult. Girl going to 10th: Bible 1000, continue Literature I, continue LA 8 and when that's finished, go directly into English I. We're doing summer school to finish Saxon 87, then we'll test our way through Algebra 1/2 until she stops passing tests, hoping to get through as much math as possible. I think we'll do CLE 900 science, which surely must be easier than the R&S 9/10 books we did selected chapters out of this year (I'm calling it Intro to Physics). For history/social studies, I know we'll do some on Careers, and quite a bit on the free enterprise system since we didn't get to do it this year. And what are YOUR plans???
Oh I am SO glad you asked as this is exactly what I've been working out the past week! 3rd grader: MUS Gamma WriteShop B - I went with B because I really feel like he needs to start from there and work up. Scott Foresman Grammar Book Adventure for reading comprehension 1st grader: Math mammoth grade 1 All About Spelling level 1 Scott Foresman 1st grade book adventures for reading comprehension Kindergartner(4yr old - will be 5 in November and would qualify for local kindy this year): K-4 from Confessions of a homeschooler I also plan to get him a math specific workbook to work through. Sierra - almost 3yr old: No idea. I'm still trying to decide between doing our Letter of the Week program from confessions of a homeschooler for the first 26 weeks and then doing the first ten weeks of the k-4 program for the last ten weeks and then pick up where she leaves off next school year in the k-4 OR just having her and Sawyer do K-4 together straight through the year. My husband thinks I should just have them both do k-4 together. I haven't made a decision yet. I have both programs already printed, laminated etc from previous students so I can make my decision last minute if need be. All together: Calendar notebooks - each child will have their own to fill in. We Choose Virtues - I FINALLY splurged on this We'll do those two things to start our school days then do individual stuff, then get back together to do Road Trip USA by confessions of a homeschooler. I plan to do science two days a week using Usborne Books of science activities, and I plan to do the artist unit studies by confessions of a homeschooler 2 days a week.

It's always fun to see what everyone else is using. I haven't gotten everything figured out for my son yet, but here's what I plan for my daughter for 4th grade: Math: Teaching Textbooks 4 & Practical Arithmetics 1 (we'll continuing with LOF elementary as a read aloud and I got Math Tutor Basic Math dvd's so we'll start going through those too) Grammar: Grammar Island Writing: Essentials in Writing 4 Spelling: Sequential Spelling Level 1 Cursive: Character D'Nealian Literature: Moving Beyond the Page lit guides (we picked out 6 of the lit guides and then other books to just read without guides) History: Beautiful Feet Early American History Primary Science: NOEO Biology 2 Art: Home Art Studio Spanish: La Clase Divertida We'll also be using Daily Paragraph Editing and Daily Geography.

For the second year in a row, it's almost June, and I have NO IDEA!!! Up until last year, I had everything decided on and bought by now!!! Co-op is up in the air. There is two, actually! One is fairly formal, the other more informal (but, unfortunately, they are slowly becoming "more organized".) Co-op A has science classes, but LAB ONLY. In other words, I have to assign all the readings, administer the tests, etc. They no longer teach Chemistry, because the Chemistry teacher's kid graduated, and they haven't found a new teacher. Co-op B, while the kids have to read and all ouside of class, either sends the test home or gives them in class. She grades the tests, etc., as well as labs. And Phillip says he likes it better (he's done Gen Sci at B, and Phys Sci at A). HOWEVER, they also don't have Chem, because there's not enough interest for the fall. They plan on offering Chem every other year. SOOOOOOO.....Faythe was planning on Chem, but that doesn't seem to work out. She's interested in Marine Biology. Apologia DOES have that, but no one teaches it. I'm going to talk with the teacher at B, to see if she would stay an extra half-hour on certain days so that Faythe can do dissecting with her stuff. Then she can take Chem the next year. (We've already decided to postpone her graduation one year!) B also offers drawing, which Faythe would be THRILLED to take. A, however, has Phillip's guitar class, and Faythe (my couch potato) could take a gym class. Both would offer good writing classes. I'd REALLY like to eventually teach at A, but that hasn't come about yet (which is REALLY frustrating!!!). I could do both, but both are about a half-hour to 45 mins away (opposite directions!). So that would be two days with extensive traveling. A, being more organized, requires that I be there the whole time my kids are there, and that I help in two classes. One of those classes will be sewing; I was one of two volunteers last year, and we really work well together. B allows me to drop off the kids, but it's too far to go back home. There is a Kroger's close where I could do shopping if I wanted. The last time we went there, I would take my sewing machine and worked on my quilting. This is not possible at A. Phillip would prefer to do both. He has friends at both. To be quite honest, the kids at A are nice and all, but he never sees them outside of co-op. The kids from B live closer, and he does have opportunity to spend time outside of co-op with them. Sigh....
3rd grade: Teaching Textbooks 4 (She is more than half way through 4, just bought 5 today.) Easy Grammar 3 and Daily Grams 3 ClickNKids Spelling and Phonics Explode the Code 6 (in the middle of 6 then will start on 7) A Reason for Handwriting E (just about finished with D) SpellWell B/Bb (This will be our first year using SpellWell, would appreciate any feedback on it. SOTW, History Pockets/Draw and Write Through History CLE Bible SOS Spanish & SOS Science...we are going to try these as they were given to me. SOS worked well for my older daughter but my younger daughter is more of a workbook and hands-on type learner. My older daughter graduated high school yesterday! She will be going to the local tech school for Health services and then onto the local university for Cardiology technology. To get into the university she needs a second year of a language (she has two years but in different languages.) So she will be going half day to tech school, and doing an extra year of a higher math (Teaching Textbooks Pre-Calculus) and a second year of French. She plans on going to the University of South Carolina for the 2014-15 school year.

We did lots of grammar in the younger years, but not so much in the high school years. Going to do lots of writing in multiple subjects this year as we prepare for college!!) Government Physical Science-Apologia (We did Biology, Chem, and Forensic Science. MS requires Physical) Mississippi History (Another requirement that we didn't have at the beginning of high school) Computer--need to find a curriculum! DD14: Algebra 1 (TT) Physical Science (Apologia) Sign Language (Lifeprint.com)--hoping to find some real-life opportunities Grammar/Writing- Easy Grammar Plus/Easy Writing Lit- (probably just those from a list somewhere!) We've covered TN and TX basics when we lived in those states. We hope (fingers crossed) to me out of MS within 2 years, so I can't decide if it's worth focusing on in the younger years.
DS 10- 6th grade CLE math 6 Winston Grammar Either Soaring with Spelling or Spellwell (opinions?) Jump In writing OR may try Total Language Plus instead of those 3 SCM, SOTW and Truthquest history - middle ages Exploration Education intermediate science God and the History of Art Guitar lessons CLE Bible and Reading For my 4-yr-old we will continue the same as this year = letting him do pages from his $1 Tree workbooks and watch educational shows/play educational games. I see no hurry to have him do formal school, esp with a newborn.
My boys will be 3rd and 6th grade next year. We will be doing Trail Guide to learning Paths of Exploration together. It covers everything but math. Our local teacher supply store is going out of business so I bought History Pockets to add in some more fun stuff if we want to. I may need to supplement more science for my science loving 3rd grader, but I think that will probably be done more informally with his outside reading and research. 3rd grader will be using Bob Jones Math 3 (already have the teacher's guide since older son used it, so I just need to buy the student book). 6th grader I am still trying to decide on Math, but leaning toward Teaching Textbooks.
Just got a phone call. The sibling pair won't be coming back next year. They'll be going to the next town over, to a somewhat bigger all-Abeka school at a church. They won't even be coming back Friday for our Fun Day. I just finished documenting all the progress they made this year. :? Well, at least I haven't ordered tons of materials for them that I won't be using now...

Co-op issue is now resolved! The one we attended last year called the other day about me teaching. I "interviewed" with them yesterday (a formality only, since I was an aide in the class of a formal committee member a few years back, and she told them that they really needed to get me teaching!), and I'll be teaching there next year for sure. AND I found out that they DO offer Chemistry, so Faythe will be doing that. We won't be going to the other co-op at all. I will be teaching a primary math class, Faythe will be taking Chem (and possibly a gym class). Phillip will be taking Biology and guitar. I also will be helping with a sewing class. We've got a team of three of us who really work well together in the sewing class. It's always been one hour, and we've expanded it to two, with the understanding that the (girls) didn't have to be there the whole time if they have another class one of those hours. But last year, we'd just get going, and had to clean up.
I noticed that you are using Classical Writing for your younger two, but not your older two. Is that because you don't like Classical Writing at a higher level?
Not at all - I think the higher levels look great! We only discovered Classical Writing last year, and it wasn't a good fit for Ds12. I considered Herodotus for Ds14, but he isn't wiling to put in the time.
