Where do you live? Are you in a big city, small town, out in the middle of nowhere, or somewhere in between? Right now I live in a city of over 700,00 that is part of a greater metropolitan area of over 5.5 million. I like small towns near a big city the best - especially ones in a cool climate near the mountains and the beach.
I live a few miles outside of town, on top of a mountain. There are more and more houses up here We are losing more and more of our quiet country life as more and more doctors from the huge hospital in town build up here because it's all prime land. The town is pretty small. 2 grocery stores is about all we have, oh and 2 gas stations. There is a McDonalds near the interstate and a tiny Wendys here. The next town over is a bit bigger... it actually has enough people to be considered a town (ours is a burrow or something like that???). That town has a Walmart. ETA, just looked it up looks like we have about 4,000-5,000 people here. Our entire county has a population of 18,000
That is nice I used to work in an elementary school in Oregon where the town had a population around 1000. It was nice!
Small town. Last census, 821. No stoplight. One small gas station/convenience store and the post office. Supposedly, we're getting a grocery store, but that rumor's been around since we moved here almost five years ago, so I'll believe it when I see it.
Typical densely populated suburb of a major metro area. It's been a nice place to raise a family, but I would prefer to live somewhere else. My wife feels so attached to the place, though, that I would not consider moving.
Big city - over 8 million people. My county (borough) has 2.2 million people. My neighborhood has over 39,000 people. I love it.
We live in a coastal city with a population of just under 70,000. I prefer smaller towns with easy access to bigger cities, though I absolutely loved living in San Antonio (population 1.7 million).
Rural farming community. County population 28,000. Closest city to us in our county has a population of about 300. 3 grocery stores, 16 gas stations... We're so rural, I was reading in our county paper recently that the city that our county seat is in...is currently without a police force. Because the one cop they had, got in a wreck and was hospitalized in critical condition. But we're close to a decent size city (30 minute drive to Athens)
We're in a very small town, in the middle of a farming region, and every town immediately around us is 10-16 miles. We used to be a fairly bustling little town, but now there's one grocery store, one gas station/convenience store, one feed store, one gas distributor where you can also buy gas like a filling station, two restaurants, and a dollar store. And the post office, of course. And a little branch library. Oh, and one saloon. We don't even have a traffic light. The towns around are bigger; two of them have WalMarts. It's still a nice place to raise kids, they can ride their bikes all over, neighbors still watch out for each other's kids, but about all that's going on here is church and public school.
I live on a dead-end dirt road in an unincorporated town of 6,000. We are 6 miles from the main road and about 10 miles from the nearest store. We drive about 8 miles to pick up our mail since we don't have home delivery. Lots of farms and everyone has several acres of land. I'm an hour from "civilization" (as my DH calls it, he was born and raised in the middle of Philadelphia) where we have everything you can imagine.
We live outside of a city that has about 11,000 people. We use their mailing address, but we can't use the library for free. I like it. I would rather live just a little farther out, but it is just about ideal.
Rural area.. Population around 15,000 and growing thanks to the oil boom and the wind farms.. We are FINALLY getting a Super Walmart!!! WOO HOO!! Right now we have 1 Grocery store and a "hometown" Walmart. Closest town to us with any decent shopping or recreation is almost 2 hours away in any direction.. Love my quiet small town
Small rural town between 2 much larger towns/cities. The town to the west(where I grew up) has a population of 25,000 and the metroplex to the east (dallas-ft worth) is about 6 million. Our town is about 2500 people, no police dept, one high school.
Hickville with a population of about 5000; 60 miles north of the capital city (can you tell I don't really like it here?). But really, we're in a small farming community, 60 miles from the capital and 15 miles East from the border of Maine
We live in a rural area. The county has several cities/towns that were mostly mill towns, the economies died when the mills moved to China. One end of the county has some tourism. We are between 45 minutes and 1 hour 15 minutes to several mid sized cities. Locally we have a walmart, tsc, lowes, and a few chain restaurants and fast food places. The cities around us have it all. We alternate which one we go to every couple or few weeks.
Small town, 800, with a 4 way stop and a Dollar General! We are 15 minutes from a town of 50k with 3 colleges, 2 Wal Marts and quite a few chain restaurants. About 40 miles from the state capital. LOVE where we live!!!
