I'm pretty certain I'm going to to implement a year-round schooling schedule with my son! My questions are: Does anyone else do this? What is your year round schedule like? Do you stick to a certain ratio of weeks on to weeks off, or something different! :D

I'm just going for a certain number of days in the school year. I have us working up to 4-5 weeks at a time and I may move the week off depending on things that happen in life. Our first break is only after 2 weeks of school because dh had some time booked off that week. I also target birthday weeks and holidays for having a week off.

I haven't started yet, but have been looking at schooling year round. The curriculum I am going to be using is set up in 6 week units. I am looking at doing 6 weeks on 1 week off with possible longer breaks at Christmas and in the summer. But to do this well I should have started about now and we aren't ready yet.

We basically do year-round. I don't have a schedule of days on/days off, we just take off here and there as things come up. We have to have 180 school days here, so I just keep count and when we reach our 180, we take about a month off to clean, plan, and prepare for the next year. Usually, we end up schooling from Sept-July and taking most of August off. We do way more than 180 days, but I can't stand to not finish the curriculum, so I only count days we do book work, no field trips or co-op days. I really like that we can take a break for birthdays, holidays, dr. appointments, family trips, or whatever else and not have to feel like we are "behind".

We do year round school and absolutely love it!!!! We do school from July 8 to May 30. We take a week off in Sept, one week for thanksgiving, 2 weeks Xmas vacation, 1 week in Feb, and 1 week for Easter.

We school year-round and just take time off when we want. I usually school from mid-August to the end of June, leaving about 6-7 weeks off during the summer for fun and planning the next school year. We take a week off at Thanksgiving and 3-4 weeks at Christmas, plus we take days off here and there for birthdays, field trips, road trips, etc.

I've been interested in schooling year-round for the past couple of years. This year we are going to give it a go and see how it works. I'm really excited.

We school year round. Right now my only school aged child is 6 so it's pretty simple now. We do school work everyday and take a day off here and there. Our day doesn't exceed 2 hrs of school time so everyday is almost like a day off

We school year round. We start early to mid June and end mid to late May. We have tried all kinds of schedules but the one that I like so far (my kids are still on the fence) is 3 weeks on 1 week off. Three weeks on is short enough they can push through the stuff that they don't love and they have a week break to look forward to. I do change it around a bit during the holidays where we might do 4 or 2 weeks on before we have a break. Maybe it's just me that needs the break so quickly!

We just started schooling year round this past year. Our summers are light and we take time off whenever we want but its soo much less stressful. No major breaks in routine and no rush to get things done. I'm liking it

I think I'll end up with some type of year round schooling. Right now, we haven't "officially" started but we do some light reading/writing lessons each day. I plan to start throwing some math in there soon too. Those will probably be my main (possibly only) subjects we touch on during the summer/big breaks.

    Year round fun

    Hi all

Thought I'd post this so you can add it to your store of interesting but ultimately 'not of much use' facts! :D
Here in Australia, we've always schooled year round. The concept of your 'summer vacation' is quite a novelty.
The school year begins in January and is divided into 4 'terms' of approx 8 weeks, followed by two weeks of vacation. The year ends in December (our summer) and then the kids have the longest vacation of the year of about 6 weeks. Of course that's how the 'schools' do it, but most homeschoolers also follow the established school calendar, taking their holidays at different times. That's the beauty of homeschooling isn't it. The freedom to set your own schedule.

My husband has been trying to convince me to do this. I like the idea of it, but I'm not sure how my kids would respond to the change. I wish I had started that way! In truth, they are ready for school again after about 6 weeks of summer break.

I think this year we will start back in August (usually we start in September), then do 6 weeks on 1 week off until May. Usually in May we all feel like we need a long break, so around the end of may or early June I think we'll take a 6 week break and then start up again.

This year we planned a 10 day holiday in the middle of August, and I haven't got everything organized yet. I'm going to try to be ready to start our year when we return from our time at the cabin.

We have always homeschooled year round. Questions come up any time and any day. Holidays, etc, frequently turn into learning opportunities. Maybe I am just addicted to teaching, but whenever a teachable moment presented itself, I went with it.

We're starting year round this year. We did two weeks at the end of June and have been on a break since. lol I plan to get back to work next week. We average four days a week of school. I intend to do school for the next 8 weeks then we'll take a few weeks off to get used to our new baby. Then we'll do school until Thanksgiving. After Thanksgiving we'll continue with math and language arts but our social studies will be all about Christmas. I think I downloaded a unit for Christmas around the US and we'll probably use some of that as our history/geography this year is about the US. We'll take off two weeks for Christmas and New Years and come back at it in January. From there my intention is six weeks off and two weeks off I think. I hope to end in May.

We're going to give it a try this year. My kids' friends do block scheduling and my kids want to try it. I have schedule subjects in 6-week blocks with 1 week off.

We also homeschool as a church school extension, and the church school year is July 1-June 30th, so the camps that my kids are attending this summer all count toward their homeschool days/hours.

I'm planning on it. We haven't "officially" started yet, because my son is only four years old, but my state requires 180 days of instruction each school year. So, I'm going to do fifteen days a month, probably in three-week increments, with one "off" week to account for holidays and vacations and whatnot. I'm going to mark the instruction days on the calendar, so that my son knows when to expect them.
