We love Picture Smart Bible here: http://www.picturesmartbible.com/ It's a Bible overview. Each book of the Bible has a drawing sheet with very light lines on it for kids to trace as you cover different aspects of the book of the Bible. It keeps the kids' hands busy while I'm covering the material aloud. This really is a good curriculum for young through adult. The information isn't dumbed down at all, and the drawing part helps our household keep focused in an entertaining way---- it also helps keep the information in my kids' heads since they're hearing it and 'seeing' it.
We really enjoyed doing the Book of Virtues Project last year. It's free, and you can do as much or as little of it as you want. There's also the free resources from Calvary Chapel, we've used them before.
We use Bible Study Guide for All Ages. My daughter likes it because it has a bible story with coloring, plus music (she looks forward to dancing to it) and bible verses. We have the "Ages 3-K" version of the curriculum but it comes in other levels so you can coordinate teaching the same material to multiple ages at once.
Apologia's Biblical world view series is good, very heavy, in depth, full curriculum If you're looking for something lighter and cheaper (free) we're using the TruthTime EquipU club lessons from Kids4Truth I like the lessons but I find the website clunky and the lessons time consuming to pull together...so I'm looking into other free resources... The previously mentioned Calvary Chapel is also a good resource. I'm also looking at http://www.gardenofpraise.com/bibleles.htm and http://www.biblelessonsforkids.com/ for a supplement...
For those using God's Great Covenant, do you know if it's appropriate for kindergarten/1st grade? I'm looking for an introductory Bible curriculum.
God's Great Covenant is really more of a 2nd/ 3rd grade for starting the Old Testament. For k and 1st I recommend Leading Little Ones to God or BJU Bible Truths if you want a more hands on the Bible and activities.
thanks for those suggestions, too! I didn't realize there was such a wealth of options to choose from.
Christian Light Christian Liberty Lifepac Calvary Chapel Have used some of each of these at different times, and liked them all.
We do a daily devotional (cheap used book) and the Apologia "Who is God" series. There's 3 books in that series out right now. The 4th one should be out soon. I just bought my 8th grader this: http://www.catndogtheology.com/ It looks amazing & I think I'll read it along with her. But this & Apologia is pricey. My daughter also does Bible Quiz with other girls from our homeschool group. She started in Junior & has done 1 year of Teen. That has been awesome if you go to an AG church with a team. None of the girls' families go but they allow us to compete under our homeschool group. Last year she memorized 11 chapters of Matthew. Not verses-11 chapters. It's amazing what these kids learn. This year she's memorizing 1 & 2 Thes, 1 &2 Tim,Titus, & 1-2-3 John. Of course your child needs to enjoy memorizing & competition
