What sciences did they complete in high school? If they did not complete chemistry, did it affect their time at community college or university?

My daughter did the standard Physical, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I guess it would depend on the school you are applying too. I do know some schools require certain courses. I would check the admissions requirements to schools your child might be looking at applying too.

My older son and daughter both did life, earth & physical science; biology 1, biology 2, & an integrated chemistry & physics. I agree that you should check out the requirements of any colleges that your student intends to appy too.

Rachael did Physical, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Faythe will not be taking Physics, but we're going to try to get some Marine Biology in, since that is her interest.

My daughter isn't in college yet, but if she is going to attend a CSU or UC, she has to cover what is known as the "a-g" list requirements. This means, in order to even qualify for admission, she has to have a minimum of two lab science courses, but they prefer three years. My daughter CAN'T stand science. lol So, last year we coved biology, but it was a flop because the books were terrible! So although we have already started our new year, I am still trying to figure out what to do for science. I am hoping she goes private, to CBU, for multiple reasons. Mainly because they do not require the "a-g" list, but prefer it. Still, they accept homeschoolers on a regular basis who never covered lab sciences. So, if she goes to a CSU or UC, she will have to attend Jr college longer in order to enter one of their universities. If she goes private, then she is playing under different rules.

Patty, is there a co-op that would allow her to do the lab sciences? That's what we've done, and it has worked VERY well for us!

Oldest DS did physical science, biology (lab), chemistry (lab), and a dual-credit course at the local college- geology (lab). All of his credits are "valid" with the school, and he has already completed half of his lab requirements for a two-year degree through the school.

Second DD has had physical science and biology (lab). He is a junior in high school this fall, so we are still waiting to see what types of classes are open to him at the college.

    Check with the local schools...
