My children are in first grade. They have been studying animal life along with Steve Erwins' DVD that we get from the library. We have a zoo trip we are working up towards for tuesday the 12th. Steve Erwin is a big deal in the house. This morning, off the coast of Australia, Steve Erwin stopped filming a documentary and decided to grab some shots for a kids TV show he was making with or for his 8 year old daughter. Reports say he got into the water and startled a sting ray, by accident and it reacted by peircing him in the heart. He died almost right away. (This information, I got, from a fellow who was with him and interviewed by telephone about it on CNN) My twins are very sad, and so am I. I know that I could have chopped off his legs when he took his infant son into the crock pen, back a couple of years ago. But the truth is, he taught so well, and th twins adored him. As did many around the world. I send out prayers for his two young children and for his wife, and all those who know him personally and profesionaly. I send out prayers that the projects he was working on (A multi-million dollar conservation organization) is allowed to continue in the manner in wich he would have wanted. It is sad. The twins are watching it on the news. Tough lesson. We have been watching it today, too. So sad...It really has gotten my attention. I feel so badly for his wife and children. I know he was in a very dangerous line of work, but there has always just been something about him that made you like him. Prayers to his family!
I never watched him, but regardless, it is difficult for any wife and children. I will be remembering this family.
It is very sad (I used to watch him too) especially because he died doing what he loves but to God we belong and to God we all will return. We really don't know when our life will be taken away either.
We are so sad that this person we loved to watch and marvel at has died. We are praying for his family especially. So sad that we won't see him again.
It took my breath away for a minute when I heard. It's funny how you think people will be around forever..
I felt the same way! We got to bed about 4am, last night. We had the TV on and it flashed across the screen as breaking news. My first thought was "No!" and "Yea, but he is STEVE ERWIN, Doesn't God KNOW who HE is???!" I know that sounds ridiculous, but it was my first thought. Silly me. Peace to his family, as much as can be.
It was interesting, when my husband heard this, he said, "Boy, that's really bad news!" I didn't know he'd really care neccessarily. But come to think of it, the kids really liked SE, as I said before, and we loved and tried to immitate his accent, and his famous, "Crikey!" When I went to Kenya, my dh said, "Watch out for Black Mambas, unless Steve Erwin's going with you!" He said that cuz there were many times that we saw him working with the Black Mamba's in Africa! I feel for his family, cuz his son will grow up without really getting to know his dad! At least his dd was older---not that it makes it okay, obviously, but she had a little more chance to do things with her daddy that she'll be able to remember! How sad! I will pray for them also.
I was shocked when I read about it on CNN. Emma kept asking questions about death and why he died. I told her," This is why we need to be ready to depart, living our life in unity with Christ, because nobody knows the number of their days. Death is inevitable, we cannot avoid it." She asked why everyone was talking about it and why it seems so sad. I thought about it for a moment and told her that I think it was because he touched so many lives with his passion for what he did. He did it with all his heart and you could visually see he had a heart for his family. They were a package and they will be missed. You know we hear on a regular basis of famous people who depart this world and few make an impact among people. This Steve Erwin did. I am praying for his family for peace and comfort in Christ.
Sad Loss of a Great Man We are big fans here and love him, as he has been in our home for many years. We pray for his wife and children. His memories through his work and life will carry on forever. I can hardly believe it even now, never expected this to happen to such a man of great knowledge, power and love. He will be missed.
Here's an Australian paper's account of what's being said there- http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/
My dh came about 4pm that day and told me. I thought it must be a mistake till I found it online in The courie mail (large paper up here in Queensland) I am just so cut up about it. He was the best darn aussie I 'knew'. We all loved him and he will be very missed.
