really I don't... I have english, lit down.. but for the rest I don't know what to do for my 11th grader. What I wanted I may not be able to afford, since my husband is still without a job....
Have you covered heath. I mean dating, courting, marriage, healthy sex, emotional health, signs of a bad relationship, etc... Although Em and I discuss these issues on a regular basis, I am having her read some books on the issues over the course of this year and next. I am also burning some CDs for her to listen to. She will receive elective credit, as well as health. I just have to figure out what to list it under.
What math is up next? There are some resources online for algebra and geometry. Is that one Khan Academy I think? Does he need a science/lab or can you wait until next year? Or even wait until January to start and go thru until finished. My 11th grader has done physical science and biology (lab). This fall he is taking a health/anatomy course for science and we will do chemistry next year (12th). What history has he studied? Mine studied world history last year. His freshman year he did a government/civics study, so this year I plan to incorporate some biographies/autobios into his American history. Not only the first men of our government, but also inventors/artists/writers of American history. Also, Drive Thru History- America dvd's. Does he have an elective picked? You can find foreign lang courses online. Or a computer class. Or an apprenticeship or job shadow locally. (Log his hours for his transcript.) That is where I would start. MT3
Hillsdale College has some great free online history classes for high schoolers. We've been using them for a couple of years now. I'm hoping they add something new for next year!
Book Samaritan is a good idea. I checked into them though and they currently have an extended wait time. Things have been really tight for us, but I just couldn't justify asking when I should be able to get enough together to get started and add other things a bit later. If you let us know what you are interested in doing, we may be able to help or give more ideas.
Someone just put up on FB yesterday that MIT has free science resources online. I'm sure other universities do too.
Thanks for the ideas ladies... I will look into the science stuff. I wanted to do some kind of Business math for her. Any one know a good resource for that.
Shelby, first let me apologize for the "he" pronoun in my post. I was not certain if your high schooler was a son or daughter, so I defaulted to he since I have three sons. It's hard to keep everyone straight on this site. Sorry! Second, I found these today: http://www.mrlsmath.com/20-free-resources-for-high-school-math-teachers/ http://www.financefreak.com/ I have not had the chance to go through much of them but wanted to share.
