I just reviewed VocabularySpellingCity on my blog - and I was SO impressed. My youngest had occasionally used the site when she was struggling to memorize some words, but all I really knew was that you could put in your own words and there were games. The irony is that now I am 'sold' on their website - I have no more kids to learn spelling. So, I just want to share so that some of you with younger kids can make use of it. A lot of the site can be use without paying anything - tons of games and quizzes. You can also let it do the grading for you (that part is paid). And the site incorporates grammar and vocabulary for each word too! And - they gave me a free annual subscription to their premium site which I have no use for, so I am running a giveaway which you might want to enter - ends tonight. We use SpellingCity and love it too! When our daughter is reading a new book, I make a list of the words I know she'll have trouble understanding, and then have her play the match-it sentences game. For our older kids, I use it mostly for their science terminology. It really helps with their comprehension of the material they're covering. It has improved their test scores.
Oh poo! Why didn't I see this post yesterday? I thought it was just posted so I excitedly went to the blog to enter. It's already over. Oh well....I never win anything anyway. :lol: I'll definitely have to check Spelling City again. I was there once, but maybe I didn't have enough time to really check it out so I never really knew how to use it. Goodness knows my kids need all the help they can get with spelling.
I like this name Spelling City. I will definitely check it. DD's currently using this site beestar for spelling. Exercises are short and cute so DD's more willing to do the work. I also like the medals and trophies and honor roll that the child can aspire to acheive every week. Lisa
