 Okay, so if you read my previous "guess what" post you'll know what's going on.. The principal of the school just called and was sticky sweet.. WEIRD!! He was TOTALLY willing to work with us.. Even stated that we could get help from the school with my son and his illness :shock: SO, I am taking my son up there to be interviewed today, school starts MONDAY!! I'm NERVOUS as heck!! I have to take his school work that he did up there to be reviewed as well.. I'll post when we know what the outcome is.. :/ going up there around 3:30.

Special needs kids are worth more money to them. They don't want to lose it!

Well, according to the written policy, placement is at sole discression of the principal.. Apparently, someone clued him in on the policy and that he HAD to do certain things. According to policy, one way of placement is by looking at previous work done by the student.. Another is by testing.. WELLLL... He had to look at his work, which happened to be Abeka.. He said he couldn't really tell from the work so now we will go in on Tuesday and do 3 tests.. Math, Reading, and Science.. My son already did the Science test while he was still in school, so I don't know WHY they are doing that, but WHATEVER! He said that he wasn't going to put him back into the Junior high no matter what.. He talked with the Jr High principal and said he had nothing but praise for my son.. Also told me that Texas says that a student HAS to pass the STARR test in order to be moved on to 9th grade.. Then turned around and said,"well, that's not exactly true. As long as they don't totally BOMB it". Worse case senerio is that they would send him to the academy to "catch up" and then he would come back next year as a Sophmore.. BUT the academy doesn't accept students until they are 16 :) He apparently doesn't know that.. But I do.. So reguardless, he will be going to the high school.. We'll indure the tests, which are accessible to me right now online along with the answers, so we are going over them this weekend and He'll spend the day Tuesday doing tests.. School starts Monday, so they are keeping him from attending because they are just NOW deciding to test him.. We should know something by Tuesday evening because they are graded immediately.. We shall see what else they throw at us.. He kept the few papers that I did take up there to look over some more.. I'm not sure what that was all about.. I think it's a power trip sorta thing.. This guy is a real piece of work.. He said he didn't have access to his transcripts from public school so didn't even look over them.. We enrolled him TWO weeks ago.. Why didn't they get them! He kept saying unaccredited blah blah blah.. I have decided that as long as he's testing him, We'll leave it alone.. As long as he's following procedure I'm done fighting with them.. I REALLY have myself talked into homeschooling my son.. Hubby is still saying NO.. My son is wanting to go, but he's fine with whatever.. I'll let you know when he's done.. Say a prayer that he ACES all of the tests!!! I would LOVE to say IN YOUR FACE, MR CONNOR!!!

Hope all the tests go well. A friend in TX sent her kids back last year and they had done Abeka DVD's. Her kids had difficulty on the math portions b/c of the algebraic thinking parts. Abeka really doesn't focus on this until high school and algebra classes whereas they have implemented all over the board with common core now beginning in elementary. Her kids had tested a few years ago before the tests changed last year for common core and had done well. The tests have changed this last year. Just a heads up to focus on wordy math problems that use variables and there is math response too where you have to explain your math reasoning with complete sentences on how you work the math problem.

We have access to the actual tests with the answer keys.. we are NOT cheating, but you can bet your butt we will go over some of the stuff.. The math IS going to kick his butt!! He wizzed through the science test when we studied.. Next is reading and I think he should be fine with that too.. I'm not good with math and to be honest with you, the way the schools are now, I can't even help with upper level homework.. Some of this stuff I've never even seen before and it gives me a headache to try and figure it out!!
